EXCLUSIVE: Michael Sarnoski, the filmmaker behind titles like Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, is set to direct the pilot of The Chain for HBO and will also serve as executive producer of the buzzy limited series, based on the New York Times bestseller by Adrian McKinty.

Sarnoski reunites with Jodie Comer, who’s set to star, following the duo’s work together on the forthcoming A24 thriller The Death of Robin Hood. In the eight-episode series, Comer plays Rachel, a suburban mother who must consider the unthinkable when her daughter is kidnapped.

The Chain hails from Media Res and Emmy winner Damon Lindelof, who is writing, exec producing and showrunning. The pilot story is by Lindelof, Carly Wray and Breannah Gibson, with Lindelof and Wray writing the pilot script.

Other exec producers on the series include Michael Ellenberg for Media Res, the aforementioned Sarnoski, Shane Salerno, Breannah Gibson, and Joe Iberti. Author McKinty serves as co-executive producer.

Sarnoski broke out with the lauded 2021 Neon film Pig, starring Nicolas Cage, before going on to helm Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Day One, which grossed more than $250 million worldwide. Next up for him is The Death of Robin Hood, starring Hugh Jackman, which A24 releases on June 19. Also set to write and direct a live-action adaptation of the Hideo Kojima game Death Stranding for A24 and Kojima Productions, he is repped by WME, Range Media Partners, and Derek Kroeger.
