Provocative Queer Movie 'Blue Film' Scores Distribution I...

EXCLUSIVE: Obscured Releasing has secured the sale of provocative queer thriller Blue Film to Peccadillo Pictures, the UK-based distribution company specializing in LGBTQ+ arthouse film.

London-based sales agent Rapt Films International has acquired remaining international rights and struck deals with FilmIn (Spain), Synapse (Latin America) and Salzgeber (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) out of the Cannes market. There are ongoing discussions in other key territories.

Starring Reed Birney and Kieron Moore, Blue Film, the feature debut film of writer-director Elliot Tuttle, was recently released in the U.S. and Canada by Obscured Releasing, and is planned to be released by Peccadillo in the UK this fall.

The film follow a swaggering fetish camboy (Kieron Moore) who accepts a private house call, only to discover his masked client (Birney) is his former middle-school teacher and a convicted sex offender.

Watch on Deadline

Blue Film had its world premiere at the 2025 Edinburgh International Film Festival and its North American premiere at NewFest this past fall. The film also played at OUTShine Film Festival, Philadelphia International Film Festival, Montclair Film Festival in the U.S. and at international festivals including the Athens International Film Festival.

Pic was produced by Bijan Kazerooni, Will Youmans, Waylon Sall and Adam Kersh, with Mark Duplass as consulting producer, and Birney and Eric Kohn as executive producers.

The UK deal was negotiated by Bill Guentzler and RJ Millard of Obscured with Tom Abell and Kahloon Loke on behalf of Peccadillo Films. All other territories were negotiated by Russell Webber of Rapt.

“Queer cinema, by its very name, is meant to challenge. It challenges the establishment, it challenges perceptions and it challenges the viewer. Blue Film is perfect Queer Cinema; the film raises important, difficult questions and refuses to provide easy answers,” said Tom Abell of Peccadillo, “Consequently it’s a perfect Peccadillo title and we are extremely proud to bring Blue Film to cinemas in the UK and Republic of Ireland.”

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Peccadillo Pictures,” said Tuttle. “We first premiered in Edinburgh, and we’ve all been eager to bring the film back to the UK where our journey started. And I know our resident Brit, Kieron, is excited to have his Blue Film homecoming. Moreover, we’re grateful to Russell and Rapt Films for bringing Blue Film to audiences worldwide!”

Russell Webber, CEO of Rapt, added: “With Blue Film, Elliot has crafted a remarkable debut that establishes him as a compelling new voice in queer cinema. It’s the kind of fearless film that challenges convention and merits industry attention. We’re beyond excited to announce the first international deals and anticipate a long tail of sustained buyer interest as the film continues to find a wider audience.”
