EXCLUSIVE: Ahead of the launch of reality series Calabasas Confidential, Kismet Media has struck an overall deal with Wheelhouse.
Kismet Media was founded in 2022 by Ally Gasparian and Alex Rosenberg, who has worked on series including Vanderpump Rules, Next Gen: NYC, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, The Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise, Buying Beverly Hills and Southern Charm.
The partnership will bring together Kismet’s producing and casting expertise with Wheelhouse’s production, investment and brand-building capabilities. The duo will work closely with Wheelhouse’s Spoke Studios as well as its other labels and divisions such as Wheelhouse Sports and its production partners including David Grutman’s DGN Studios.
The two companies are working together on Netflix reality series Calabasas Confidential, which premieres on May 29.
The show follows a group of lifelong friends who return to Calabasas, CA, post-college for a summer of reckoning – facing unresolved dramas from the past while trying to figure out their futures.
The cast, including some notable nepo babies includes Alexie Epstein, Ben Favaedi, Dylan Wolf, Emilie Nelson, Emma Medrano, Hercy Miller, Jemma Durrant, Jodie Woods, Kimora Lewis, Nicole Sahebi, Preston Pippen, Raine Michaels, Sterling Retzlaff and Suede Brooks.
Gasparian and Rosenberg serve as executive producers on the show, alongside Wheelhouse’s Gardner Reed, with whom they developed the series and Wheelhouse’s Brent Montgomery, Courtney White, Will Nothacker and Bill Dixon.
Netflix is clearly high on the show. VP, Unscripted Jeff Gaspin said, “When someone in their 20s comes to visit Los Angeles, there’s two places they want to go, and it’s not Disneyland or Universal: It’s Calabasas and Erewhon. It kind of blows my mind,” Gaspin said. “I’m not a Calabasas native, but I moved here when I moved to L.A. in 2001. It used to be a pumpkin town and everyone would say, ‘Why are you moving all the way out there?’ But then, of course, a certain family moved in [to Hidden Hills] and put Calabasas on the map.”
In addition to that, Kismet is also developing series with Bravo and E!.
“At Kismet, we’re focused on bold, young, and character-driven storytelling—shows built around real people and real dynamics that audiences can’t look away from,” Gasparian and Rosenberg said. “We’ve always believed in betting on ourselves and from the moment we met, it literally was kismet. We’re thrilled that Wheelhouse sees that same vision and is betting on us too.”
Wheelhouse Entertainment President Courtney White added, “Ally and Alex have a unique skill set tailored for a zeitgeist-driven content landscape—blending character and storytelling with what’s happening in the world and what young audiences are obsessed with. We’re excited for what we know will be a great ride together.”
