Deliverability Insights
Jonni Lundy · 2024-08-22 · via Resend RSS Feed

Deliverability is a shared responsibility between the email provider and the sender.

But not everyone is an email expert, and that's okay. The fact is that by following best practices, you can improve your chances of landing in the inbox instead of the spam folder.

That's why we created Deliverability Insights.

How we got here

As we've helped companies of all sizes improve their deliverability, we realized a pattern in our advice. We often recommended the same best practices over and over. Knowing these best practices requires you to be an email expert or read different articles on deliverability, which can be overwhelming.

We first created an internal tool to help our support team when there were deliverability questions. This tool helped diagnose common deliverability issues and helped customers reach the inbox instead of spam. We realized this was too important to keep it as an internal tool, and now we're making it a built-in feature.

How to use it

There's an Insights tab when you view an email in Resend now. This will check your email in multiple ways to ensure it has the best chance to reach the inbox.

We break these insights into three categories:

1. Needs attention

These are changes that will align your email with industry best practices such as:

  • Keep email body size small
  • DMARC record is valid
  • Link URLs match sending domain
  • Include plain text version
  • Don't use "no-reply"

2. Possible improvements

These are optimizations that could improve your deliverability like:

  • Disable click tracking
  • Disable open tracking
  • Use a subdomain

3. Doing great

If a check passes, you'll get a nice green check. This means you're following best practices is one step further to ensuring your emails land in the inbox.

What's next

This is the first step in bringing more recommendations into the product.

While in Beta, Deliverability Insights are available for free to all plans. We hope this helps all new and old senders improve their deliverability.

We plan to add more insights, including additional best practices, so you can be confident your messages are reaching users.
