Welcoming Pedro Ivo Hudson, our new Design Engineer
Zeh Fernandes, Pedro Ivo Hudson · 2026-05-01 · via Resend RSS Feed

Pedro Ivo Hudson has been a design engineer before the term even existed. For over 15 years, he’s been pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with CSS and HTML. One of my favorite projects of his is The Good Man, a web experiment that blends code, design, and storytelling.

We’re very excited to have him in the team.

More about Pedro Ivo

How did you get into design?

When I was young, I got into a Macromedia (🪦) class, because I wanted to do Flash animations. It was way harder than I thought and those animations never came to fruition, but I got to learn Freehand, Fireworks and Dreamweaver, and try the basics of HTML and CSS. This opened my mind to so many different things.

I never got to learn Action Script and actually use it, but from there, I started building my own websites using WordPress, then I joined a graphic design university and never stopped learning about design.

Why are you at Resend?

Because of the people working here and the marvelous work being delivered. The leadership and design team has so many folks I admire, that I couldn't miss the opportunity to join the team and do things with them.

Also, this is going to be the first time I'll be working directly with code and with an engineer title. This was a long time dreamed position and I couldn’t be more excited to be doing all this at Resend. I'll have to work really hard to step up my game and learn from the best!

Where do you find #inspiration?

I mostly try to find inspiration online, taking a look at the industry and curation websites, such as Cosmos, Savee and Are.na. But not only that, I like to watch movies, listen to music and read articles from others in the industry. On top of that, I've been trying to be more open to social experiences and travelling with my wife. Getting offline is a must!

If you weren't designing, what would you be doing?

Probably carpentry and/or pottery. I can totally start learning this today, but my perfectionist way of thinking won't let me start a new side quest knowing I won't have enough time to master it.

Or maybe work as a Biologist or Veterinarian, but that's a story for another time. Curious fact about me, is that I've had a spider pet for almost 20 years, so I like to believe I still have something in me for biology.

Favorite tool?

A browser. I'm still a Chrome user (🙈), but I'm always trying new browsers. I feel like everything starts in a browser. If you don't have one installed on your computer, it feels empty and shallow.

Favorite hotkey?

Shift + Option + -

Em dash for the win — I find it very elegant and versatile.

Favorite place to visit?

My hometown Belo Horizonte. Every time I return to visit family and friends, it feels really warm. Literally, cause it's hot there, but so familiar and natural, that I just wanna stay a little more.

Advice for ambitious designers?

While working at Work&Co, I learned something really special that I carry with me: "Design is introspective and humble, but getting your designs out into the world requires being extrovert and persuasive. These skills don't come naturally to designers, but they're needed. We're all first and foremost hands-on practitioners, but we must also be more."

So don't get too comfortable in your craft, surround yourself with people you admire, master the fundamentals and do a lot of work!
