Herbert Insights & Innovations leverages Nutrient to transform client workflows and drive better business outcomes

    Jessica Herbert

    Chairwoman and CTO

“With Nutrient, we bridge the gap between people, processes, and systems, which is something other tools just can’t do.”

    Herbert Insights & Innovations

    Use case

    • Herbert Insights & Innovations (HI&I) needed a workflow platform to help clients across industries discover, define, and optimize their business processes.

    Challenge

    • Clients often come to HI&I with disorganized, inefficient, or undocumented processes, especially in back office functions like AP, procurement, billing, and vendor management.

    Solution

    • HI&I uses Nutrient to document, design, and automate consistent, auditable workflows that bring order to chaotic processes.

    Result

    • The HI&I team has implemented hundreds of processes across hundreds of instances of Nutrient Workflow for its clients to help standardize processes.

Our partner, Herbert Insights & Innovations(opens in a new tab) (HI&I), helps its clients improve operational efficiency by approaching process improvement with a new lens. HI&I was founded on the principle of having fun with your processes and treating every interaction with adventure in mind. Marty and Jessica Herbert, the founders of HI&I, have been using Nutrient Workflow (formerly known as Integrify) since 2013 at previous organizations they worked at. With more than a decade of hands-on experience, they recognized the immense potential of the platform and decided to start their own business in 2024.

When Marty and Jessica founded HI&I, Nutrient wasn’t just an add-on; it was a strategic decision from day one. Their goal was to help government contractors and highly regulated organizations improve business operations through better workflow design. Within the first month of business, process improvement became a central part of their value offering. That’s why they turned to Nutrient.

How HI&I uses Nutrient to better serve its customers

HI&I’s mission is to help organizations define and build better workflows, whether through workflow automation or through policy and procedure optimization. While the industries HI&I serves vary, the issues often look the same: Internal processes like finance and procurement are fragmented and rely on disconnected, manual efforts. Clients know they have a problem, but they may not know how to fix it.

HI&I helps clients uncover hidden inefficiencies and messy, email-driven processes, especially in back office functions. The company starts by documenting how work‌ gets done, revealing bottlenecks or inconsistent practices. To help implement structured processes that are easy to follow and adaptable, HI&I regularly turns to Nutrient Workflow Automation.

Whether it’s vendor management, AP, procurement, or billing, HI&I’s strength lies in knowing how to fix what’s broken. The company’s deep understanding of operations, paired with Nutrient’s flexibility, allows it to introduce change without overwhelming clients. With Nutrient, clients not only gain automation, but they gain understanding: where their process is, where it’s going, and how to make it better. Jessica highlighted that clients often don’t realize how broken their workflows are until HI&I walks them through the root causes. Nutrient helps make those issues visible and solvable.

    Jessica Herbert

    Chairwoman and CTO

“Once Nutrient is in place, clients actually see the results they’ve been waiting for: real-time insights, smoother approvals, and workflows that finally make sense.”

    Herbert Insights & Innovations

    What makes the partnership work

The partnership between HI&I and Nutrient is rooted in mutual trust, shared values, and a history of results. With Nutrient, HI&I can:

    • Rapidly prototype and test workflows internally before rolling them out to clients.
    • Bring clients from disorganized to optimized through structured, transparent processes.
    • Centralize operations in one system, reducing friction and improving accountability.

When we asked Marty what his favorite part of working with Nutrient was, he said “Everything! It is everything that it should be when dealing with another company.” Additionally, because HI&I is a trusted partner, the company gets earlier access to seeing what new features are on the roadmap. So, when asked what he’s looking forward to in the future, Marty shared his top four features he’s looking forward to using as:

    1. AI usage in workflows
    2. API elements
    3. Inclusion of electronic signatures
    4. Dashboards and reporting enhancements

These enhancements are especially valuable for compliance-heavy industries where audibility and efficiency are critical.

    HI&I client success stories

Before Nutrient, HI&I’s clients were often stuck. Their processes were undefined, manual, or scattered across teams. When we asked the HI&I team to share some success stories from clients, three came to mind.

    Billing improvements

An organization’s billing team would spend two weeks on fixed-price billing, and then turned it into an automated process that only took 10 minutes.

    Replacing old systems

HI&I helped a client replace an old workflow system that couldn’t get off the ground for more than a year.

    Standardization across locations

One of HI&I’s clients needed to be able to standardize processes across all locations of their business. Sometimes, different locations had their own processes, but to be compliant, it was important to combine workflows.

    Marty Herbert

    President and CEO

“Nutrient is a single location where our clients can consolidate everything in one place. It connects everything together.”

    Herbert Insights & Innovations

    A long-term partnership

With Nutrient’s support, HI&I will continue to transform how it delivers process improvement. The company’s clients now move from confusion to clarity, using data and automation to operate more efficiently.

Jessica, Marty, and the team believe that with their combined 50 years of experience, HI&I is prepared to help its clients meet today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities. Whether serving a startup or a long-established organization, HI&I’s message is clear: Understand the problem, build a better process, and let Nutrient help make it possible.
