OpenCloud Production Release brings file management to provider level: true multi-tenancy and high availability
Anne Gossing · 2025-11-27 · via OpenCloud: Exzellentes Filesharing: Sichere und skalierbare Cloud-Lösungen

Berlin, 1 December 2025 - OpenCloud, the powerful open source platform for file management, file sharing and digital collaboration, is providing key enhancements for providers, large organisations and KRITIS environments with its latest production release, including new Kubernetes Helm charts for maximum scalable high availability. In addition, OpenSearch, which emerged from Elasticsearch, is now supported as a scalable backend for high-performance file searches.

Multi-tenancy for complex organisations

The multi-tenancy allows multiple clients to be created separately within a single deployment. OpenCloud thus specifically addresses the requirements of providers, municipal data centres and large organisations with multiple departments or customer environments.
"Multi-tenancy provides the necessary flexibility to operate OpenCloud securely and efficiently even in complex enterprise scenarios," explains Tobias Baader, Product Manager of OpenCloud.

Helm Charts bring high availability and cost efficiency

With the new Helm Charts, OpenCloud achieves a 5.25-fold increase in efficiency. The updated deployment architecture enables true high availability and intelligent load balancing while significantly reducing resource requirements. In addition, automatic scale-up and scale-down ensures that only the server resources that are actually needed are provided. In large Kubernetes landscapes, this leads to noticeable cost benefits and conserves the resources to be used.

"OpenCloud also enables significant performance gains in high-volume enterprise scenarios and considerably reduces the operating costs of large platforms," explains Tobias Baader, Product Manager of OpenCloud. "This is how OpenCloud fully utilises the advantages of its modern cloud-native architecture."

Files on Demand for the OpenCloud desktop client

With Files on Demand, OpenCloud is expanding its desktop client with a powerful function that reduces local storage space requirements while offering the familiar convenience of file management. As before, all files appear in the Windows file system, but are only downloaded in full when required. This saves local storage space and the entire structure remains easily traceable at all times. Frequently used files can remain permanently available offline, while rarely required content is automatically swapped out. This ensures faster processes and optimised memory utilisation.

Dark mode, faster search and numerous updates

In terms of technology, the new release brings numerous design and performance enhancements. The user interface now follows the Material Design standard introduced by Google and enables the creation of a colour-coordinated, accessible theme with the specification of a single colour. Dark Mode is also available for the first time as a fixed component of the production release.

The integration of OpenSearch into the Enterprise licence improves the performance of the search function, making it very fast even with enormous amounts of data. In addition, the new version brings numerous detailed improvements that make day-to-day use easier. These include the new "Save / Export As" option in Web Office and enhanced recycle bin management.

Support for enterprise use

OpenCloud is available for general free use with a wide range of functions under free open source licences - and is therefore an important building block for any IT strategy for digital sovereignty. In addition, commercial enterprise licences offer providers, platforms and large organisations a more sophisticated range of functions - including reliable 24/7 manufacturer support even for highly critical applications.
