The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

His body has since been taken to Cork University Hospital, where an autopsy will take place in due course. The coroner has also been notified. 

The female driver of the car, a woman in her 30s, was taken to Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel as a precaution. 

Gardaí say no other injuries have been reported. 

A technical examination of the scene was carried out, and the road has since been reopened. 

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed this collision to come forward.

Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N73 near Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, on Sunday June 21 2026, between 1.00pm and 2.00pm, are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.

It comes as two others died on Irish roads over the weekend. A child died after he was struck by a car in Co Mayo on Sunday.

On Saturday, a 15-year-old spectator in a crash during the Donegal International Rally. Tadhg Callaghan Carter was killed and two others were injured at location 15 on special stage 12 Gartan.

Gardaí say that shortly before 5pm, they and other emergency services were alerted after a number of onlookers were injured “in an incident involving a participating car” at Trentagh, near Kilmacrennan.
