fan_notify can watch for a filesystem or directory hierarchy, but only available for privileged programs. See FAN_MARK_FILESYSTEM
Yet, file managers, file indexer would love to benefit from those.
Those have to implement BPF, or privileged helpers.
Both are pretty common cases.
