So of course Sussex, Essex, Wessex, Middlesex, etc are inappropriate.
And so are sextuple, sexagesimal, sextant etc.

There is no rationale for cutting words in the middle and for all we know, this could be a person last name or a short-hand for Gustav Aisex.
