Though I'll have to check out fre:ac, I never really made the leap to a Linux-native CD ripper when I first started using Linux "full time" (not dual-booting) all those years ago (over a decade now?) I just continued to use my Windows CD ripper of choice, CDex - https://cdex.mu/ - and it works great through WINE!
