Loss of Pulse Detection has received U.S. FDA clearance, ...
Edward Shi · 2025-02-27 · via Google Health

Today, Google received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for our Loss of Pulse Detection feature starting with Pixel Watch 3. This first-of-its-kind feature can detect when you’ve experienced a loss of pulse (your heart stops beating from an event like primary cardiac arrest, respiratory or circulatory failure, overdose or poisoning) and automatically prompt a call to emergency services for potentially life-saving care if you’re unresponsive.

Announced in 2024 starting with Pixel Watch 3 in the EU, this feature is available in 14 countries and we’ll begin rolling it out in the U.S. at the end of March.

For three years, Pixel Watch has given people peace of mind with safety and health features like Car Crash Detection, Fall Detection, Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications and the ECG app and Safety Check. Loss of Pulse Detection is a great addition to these potentially life-saving tools.

The registrant for this feature is Fitbit LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Google.
Primary cardiac arrest is due to a heart problem (such as arrhythmia, heart failure, etc.).
Loss of Pulse Detection may not detect every instance of a loss of pulse and is not intended for users with preexisting heart conditions or those who require cardiac monitoring. It does not diagnose or treat any medical condition or provide follow-up care. Emergency calling is dependent on call functionality such as your phone or watch being charged and having adequate cellular connectivity. Not available in all countries or regions.
