Sutherland Shire Council has brought forward the official opening of the Town Square to cater for the crowds expected to attend the Cronulla Jazz and Blues Festival on the weekend.
The festival, which runs for five days from May 27-31, will feature more than 200 artists, performing on 24 stages.

Work on the mall project has been intense over the last week despite the rain.
The council says the performance stage is a flexible, weather-protected space with built-in power, audiovisual and lighting capabilities to support performances and events year-round.

The new amenities building, located opposite the stage, includes public toilets, an accessible toilet and storage facilities, designed to support the smooth operation of events and enhancing the overall functionality of the Town Square.
While the stage and amenities building will open, work across the broader Town Square project will continue and includes new seating, pavement upgrades, tree planting and roadway improvements, along with minor finishes to the stage's audio and lighting systems.

Friday's opening at 9.30am will include remarks from Sutherland Shire mayor Jack Boyd and Cronulla Chamber of Commerce President Patch Clunes, followed by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.
