A new amenities building with safe, modern and inclusive facilities has opened in Cooper Street Reserve, Engadine.

The Sutherland Shire Council project supports the hugely popular all-abilities playground and active sports youth precinct, which were completed two years ago.

The building includes three ambulant cubicles, a fully accessible cubicle with baby change facilities.

It is a certified Changing Places facility, providing essential assistance for people with high support needs, allowing them to participate in everyday community life.

This is the second Changing Places installation in the shire - the first being in the Waratah Park Playground.

Mayor Jack Boyd, who officially opened the project on Friday, said the Cooper Street Reserve upgrade supported the growing number of families, young people and community members using the all-abilities playground and active youth precinct.

"This is about making sure everyone can enjoy our parks with dignity, comfort and independence," he said.

"These new amenities are modern, accessible and inclusive, and they are a key part of our long-term vision for Cooper Street Reserve as a vibrant, welcoming space for people of all ages and abilities."

The project forms part of the broader Cooper Street Reserve Master Plan, which was developed with community input and is guiding the staged upgrade of the park's open spaces and recreational facilities.

The project was made possible from funding of more than $1.5 million through a Voluntary Planning Agreement between Cleanaway and Sutherland Shire Council.
