NBA superstar Stephen Curry just finished his 17th season with the Golden State Warriors, a year that didn’t necessarily go as hoped, as injuries derailed what the Bay Area team expected to be a successful 2025-26 campaign. However, the star has no plans of retirement or ending his career soon, according to a new report.

Questions remain about what the future holds for the Warriors and Curry. Still, most recently, by re-signing head coach Steve Kerr to a two-year deal, Golden State expects to keep its main core together, and potentially go after another star like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, or LeBron James in the offseason.

But Curry is still the top priority for the Warriors, and while his season was sabotaged by a lengthy knee injury, based on the latest news about his career, the franchise centerpiece doesn’t plan on calling it quits just yet.


Warriors Get Major Update On Stephen Curry Retirement And Career News

In a recent article by NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, he reported that Curry plans on playing at least 20 NBA seasons, all of which would assumably be with the Warriors.

“In terms of what his future with the Warriors looks like, Curry is not going anywhere anytime soon. Retirement is obviously on the horizon, but team sources told ClutchPoints that Curry has made it known multiple times throughout the years that he would like to play at least 20 seasons in the NBA,” Siegel wrote.

The star has briefly discussed a future outside of Golden State, but has yet to entertain anything further than saying it would be interesting if he ended his career playing for the Charlotte Hornets, where his father played in the 1990s and his childhood team.

“Not to mention, Curry has also made it clear that he wants to win at least one more championship, which would put him in a category with greats like Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, and other legends as the only players in league history to win at least five championships with the same organization,” Siegel added.

Retirement is definitely on the horizon for Stephen Curry, but he's not going anywhere.

Curry has spoken about retirement in the past, but has said multiple times that though it’s getting tougher to recover from injuries, his body will tell him when it’s time to end his career, but that hasn’t happened just yet.

Curry is set to enter the last year of his contract, earning $62 million in 2026-27, but will be an unrestricted free agent after that. He will be able to sign another extension on August 29 to stay with Golden State for the next few years, but that has yet to happen.


Warriors Offseason News And Rumors After Steve Kerr Extension

Much was made about Kerr’s plans as the 2025-26 NBA season was the last on his coaching deal with Golden State.

While there were rumors about a potential return to broadcasting, the four-time champion head coach chose to resign on a two-year deal with the Warriors, making him the highest-paid coach in the NBA.

“After finalizing Kerr’s contract to return for at least two more seasons, Golden State will now look to lock Curry in for the foreseeable future with a new contract extension,” Siegel reported. “What this new deal will look like in terms of years is the big question, as it’s reasonable to believe he could opt for a “1+1” type of deal with a player option for the 2028-29 season, which would align him with Kerr and create financial flexibility for the organization down the line.”

With that, Golden State now has a few more years of Curry and Kerr together, a duo that has been one of the most successful player-coach combinations in recent league memory.

However, outside of those two, the Warriors have a few decisions to make. One is Draymond Green, as the aging star has a player option for this season. Green has been publicly named in trade rumors and has even acknowledged that he doesn’t have a certain future in the Bay Area. As is the case with Jimmy Butler, he could be moved if the Warriors want to bring in another superstar to pair with Curry for the final chapter of their historic run.

With that, Golden State is rumored to have interest in players like Antetokounmpo, Leonard, and James this offseason. The Warriors could move Butler, Green, or both to make way for another superstar, whether it be one of those three or someone else who is on the market.

“Giannis is the Dubs’ No. 1 trade option entering the summer yet again, and they will make one last push before the NBA Draft to try to acquire him,” Siegel wrote on the Warriors’ offseason rumors. “Whether such an offer will involve Green or Butler for financial purposes is unknown at this time, but it’s unlikely Golden State will be the ones to win the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes.”

Additionally, the Warriors have a few players set to hit free agency. Namely, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, Gary Payton II, and several other key members of their roster. As the team wants to maximize their time left with Curry before his career ends, it remains to be seen if they’ll bring in more veterans or instead start to look towards the future.

Regardless, it appears Curry is staying in Golden State for the time being. With that, the Warriors remain dangerous in the West, but as seen this season, they’ll need some help if the team wants to create their Finals runs and dynasty that now looks like it is nearing an end.
