Kalen DeBoer continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail for Alabama.

The race for elite 2027 wide receiver Monshun Sales is beginning to narrow, and Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide remain firmly in the mix for one of the nation’s top offensive playmakers.

According to recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, Sales is now primarily focused on four schools as he prepares for a critical summer stretch of official visits. Joining the Tide are the  Indiana Hoosiers, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Texas Longhorns.

The Indianapolis native is ranked as Rivals’ No. 1 wide receiver nationally and is one of the most coveted prospects in the country regardless of position. While programs across the nation have pushed hard for the explosive pass catcher, Alabama continues to make a strong impression as Sales inches closer toward a commitment expected sometime in July.

Alabama Still Holds a Special Place for Monshun Sales

For Alabama fans, one of the most encouraging developments in Sales’ recruitment is the emotional connection he already has with the Crimson Tide program.

Sales revealed to Rivals that Alabama was one of his favorite schools growing up, largely because of his roots in the state.

“I grew up being a fan of Alabama. I grew up wanting to go there too,” Sales said.

While the five-star recruit made it clear that his recruitment is now “business,” Alabama’s longstanding relationship with him could still play a major factor once decision time arrives.

That foundation appears to have strengthened significantly since Derrick Nix took over as Alabama’s wide receivers coach.

According to Sales, Nix has made him feel like a priority from the beginning.

“I got a great relationship with Coach Nix since he became the new receivers coach,” Sales explained. “You just could tell he wanted me to be there.”

Sales also praised Alabama’s developmental vision and offensive plan for him, noting that the staff has shown exactly how they would utilize his skill set within the Crimson Tide offense.

That messaging matters in today’s recruiting landscape, especially for elite receivers looking to maximize NFL development opportunities.

Alabama Battling Recruiting Heavyweights

Landing Sales will not come easily for Coach DeBoer and the Crimson Tide.

Ohio State continues to sell its track record as arguably the premier wide receiver development program in college football over the last decade. Sales has reportedly built strong relationships with current Buckeye stars, including Jeremiah Smith, Brandon Inniss, and Carnell Tate.

Meanwhile, Texas has emerged as a legitimate late contender after extending an official offer earlier this spring. Sales recently visited Austin and spent time around quarterback Arch Manning while learning more about Steve Sarkisian’s offense.

Indiana also remains heavily involved, particularly due to proximity and the strong culture that is being built under Curt Cignetti, who just delivered the Hoosiers their first national championship.

Still, Alabama’s combination of tradition, offensive opportunity, and long-term familiarity keeps the Crimson Tide firmly positioned for the elite playmaker.

Monshun Sales Commitment Timeline

While no exact commitment date has been finalized, Sales told Rivals he expects to announce his college decision sometime in July after completing his official visits.

That sets up a massive summer recruiting showdown between four national powers, with Alabama right in the middle of it.

If the Crimson Tide can capitalize on Sales’ childhood connection to the program and continue building momentum with Derrick Nix leading the charge, Alabama could ultimately position itself to land one of the most important offensive recruits in the entire 2027 cycle.
