The Miami Dolphins have been predicted to add a top wide receiver

As things currently stand, the Miami Dolphins have uncertainty at the wide receiver position. No player on the roster has totaled over 700 receiving yards in a season, and the player with the most receiving yards on the team last season is currently running back De’Von Achane.

While some expected the Dolphins to address this with one of their two first round picks, Miami instead opted to address the offensive line and secondary. Then, they addressed the linebacker position in the second round before finally adding wide receivers Caleb Douglas and Chris Bell with their third-round picks.

Douglas was somewhat of a shocking pick, as he was not a top 150 player on the consensus board compiled out of over 20 thousand mock drafts. Meanwhile, Bell was No. 47 on the consensus board, but a late-season ACL tear caused him to fall in the draft. As a result, a 2027 mock draft has predicted the Dolphins will select the best receiver in next year’s class.

Miami Dolphins Predicted to Draft Jeremiah Smith

ESPN’s Jordan Reid released his 2027 mock draft, in which he predicted the Dolphins would select Ohio State’sJeremiah Smith with the second overall pick, opting to address the wide receiver position, passing on quarterback Dante Moore out of Oregon.

Reid wrote:

“Quarterback would be a consideration if the Dolphins pick this high, but getting a truly elite receiver would be hard to pass up, especially with the Dolphins moving on from Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle this offseason. Smith has a great blend of size and speed. He’s a swift vertical mover who eats up coverages in a hurry while showing exceptional strength at the catch point. Eight of Smith’s 12 receiving touchdowns last season came in the red zone, as he’s an upper-echelon player in that area. But he can also make big plays down the field. Andre Johnson and Julio Jones come to mind as easy NFL comparisons.”

Smith is the consensus top receiving prospect in next year’s class, and likely would have been the first wide receiver selected in the 2026 NFL Draft had he been eligible. His college teammate Carnell Tate, who was behind Smith on the depth chart, was selected No. 4 overall by the Tennessee Titans. 

Jeremiah Smith Prospect Profile

In Pro Football Network’s prospect profile of Smith, they wrote:

“Jeremiah Smith is the early top overall prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft, and is a favorite to be one of the first players selected next April. In fact, Smith has been anticipated as a potential top-three pick since high school, when he was a five-star recruit and the No. 1 overall talent in the nation.

Through his first two collegiate seasons, Smith has totaled 163 catches for 2,558 yards and 27 touchdowns. In 2025, his PFSN WR Impact score of 85.1 was fifth-highest among FBS players at his position. At 6’3″, 223 pounds, Smith has the size, length, and frame density to echo the brawling X-receivers of a WR era long past.

He’s strong, explosive, physical, and an absolute hoss at the catch point, with an inherently proactive catch-point style that yields a near-20% catch rate over expectation. Past the domineering surface-level skill set, however, Smith is quietly a complete WR. He has a high level of deceptive intelligence and footwork efficiency as a route runner, which he weaponizes through a solid release package and route tree.”

If Malik Willis does end up being the solution at the quarterback position for the Miami Dolphins, adding a weapon like Smith would likely elevate the Dolphins offense.
