On Saturday night, the Houston Astros will continue their series with the New York Yankees (at home) in Texas.

The Astros are coming off a 12-4 loss on Friday.

Colton Gordon pitched 2.0 innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs.

Before Saturday’s game, the Astros announced that they had made a roster move with Gordon.

Mark Berman wrote: “From the Astros: reinstated LHP Bennett Sousa from the 15-day IL today…he takes the roster spot of LHP Colton Gordon, who was optioned to Triple A Sugar Land after last night’s game.”

Gordon has appeared in four games this season with a 11.57 ERA.

He is in his second season playing for the Astros.

Last season, the 27-year-old went 6-4 with a 5.34 ERA in 20 games.

Brian McTaggart of MLB.com wrote (on April 14): “Colton Gordon goes 3 2/3 in his first start of the season for Houston. This will be another game where the Astros’ bullpen will throw more innings than the starter.”

Astros Right Now

The Astros are off to a slow start to the 2026 season with a 10-17 record in 27 games.

They are 7-7 in the 14 games they have played at home in Houston.

After their series with the Yankees, the Astros will head on the road to visit the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday.

McTaggart wrote after Friday’s game: “Astros are 4-14 in their last 18 games, averaging 4.5 runs per game and giving up 6.6 runs per game in that span.”

The Astros have been one of the best teams in the MLB over the last decade, winning two World Series Championships since 2017.

That said, they are coming off a year where they missed the MLB playoffs for the first time in eight years.

With how things have gone this season, it’s fair to wonder if the Astros will be a team who looks to trade veterans at the deadline.

As for Sousa, he is coming off a year where he went 5-1 with a 2.84 ERA in 44 games.

He has also spent time with the Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers.
