Anthony Wint of the New York Jets

Former New York Jets linebacker Anthony Wint will get his chance to earn a UFC contract when he appears on Dana White’s Contender Series.

Veteran MMA reporter Nolan King broke the news on X that Wint will compete this summer on DWCS. No date or opponent has been set yet, but season 10 of the show starts on August 11 on Paramount+, so Wint will likely fight sometime in mid-to-late August.

On the show, UFC president Dana White watches the best up-and-coming MMA talents up close, and after they fight in the Octagon, he chooses who to give a UFC contract to. White has discovered some of the UFC’s best talents on DWCS, including current champion Carlos Ulberg, former champions Sean O’Malley and Jamahal Hill, plus standout striker Carlos Prates.

Anthony Wint is a Former NFL Player for the New York Jets

The 30-year-old Wint is perhaps best known for his brief stint in the NFL. In 2018, he played in two games with the New York Jets, recording one forced fumble and one tackle. A former college football player at Florida International, Wint went undrafted out of college. He then signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2018, soon joining the Jets’ practice squad. After being elevated to the active roster and playing in two games for the team that year, he was waived in 2019. He then signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL, but due to COVID-19, he never ended up playing with them as he opted out of his contract. After that, Wint chose to pursue MMA instead, and he hasn’t looked back ever since.

Wint is far from the only former NFL player to compete in mixed martial arts. Former San Francisco 49ers practice squad player Josh Hokit is currently the No. 5-ranked heavyweight in the UFC following an amazing fight with Curtis Blaydes at UFC 327 in April. As well, former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Austen Lane is currently on the UFC roster. In the past, former NFL players such as Greg Hardy, Zac Pauga, and Matt Mitrione made it to the UFC.

Anthony Wint is a Blue-Chip Heavyweight MMA Prospect

Wint is one of the top heavyweight prospects in MMA. He trains out of Kill Cliff FC in Deerfield Beach, Florida, one of the top training camps in mixed martial arts, one that is home to many UFC fighters and champions. It’s no wonder, then, that Wint has been a quick learner in MMA and is now one big win away from fighting in the UFC.

After three amateur MMA fights, which he won all by stoppage, Wint turned pro in 2023. He has since gone 6-0 as a professional mixed martial artist, with five stoppage wins. He is the reigning and defending Fury FC heavyweight champion, having won that title in his last bout in March.

Wint is one of the most exciting heavyweight prospects the sport has seen in years, and with the UFC badly needing a new influx of talent in its heaviest weight class, this could be a great addition to the UFC roster. Now, it’s up to Wint. All he has to do is go out there and impress White in his tryout this summer, and Wint will become the newest member of the UFC heavyweight division.
