The Detroit Tigers are taking on the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game weekend series that wraps up on Sunday, and it’s the rubber match between the two.

Prior to Sunday’s game, the Tigers announced notable Will Vest news.

Will Vest Activated off Injured List

Tigers PR wrote (on May 17): “The Tigers today activated RHP Will Vest off the 15-day injured list. RHP Ty Madden has been placed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 16) with a right forearm contusion.”

Jason Beck also wrote (on May 16):

“Will Vest is returning to Detroit after throwing a perfect 9-pitch inning for Triple-A Toledo at Omaha last night on rehab assignment. He could be reinstated from injured list (right lateral forearm inflammation) as soon as Sunday.”

This is good news for the Detroit Tigers’ bullpen. Will Vest, although he’s off to a bit of a slow start, has been one of the best Tigers relievers for the past several seasons, and he should be able to alleviate some pressure off the rest of the pitching staff.

As for the roster move itself, it doesn’t come as a surprise, because Will Vest had been pitching in Triple-A, and manager AJ Hinch indicated on Saturday that Vest would likely be reinstated before the weekend ends.

Will Vest’s MLB Career

Will Vest debuted with the Seattle Mariners six seasons ago, but has spent the last five seasons with the Tigers. In 2026, he’s allowed eight earned runs in 11+ innings pitched, but it’s fair to assume that lack of production could be due to his injury.

In 262 total innings with the Tigers, Vest holds an earned run average of 3.33, primarily in relief work.

In 2025, Vest appeared in 64 games and recorded an ERA of 3.01. He’s steadily been a reliever who will hover around the 3.00 ERA mark.

Will Vest was actually drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2017, but debuted with the Mariners, and then was brought back over to the Tigers before the 2022 season.

His lifetime pitching record is 16-16 with a career 3.67 ERA over 297 innings. He also has 297 career strikeouts.

Detroit Tigers Right Now…

The Detroit Tigers have really struggled as of late.

Detroit has lost eight of its last 10 games and now sits in fourth place in the American League Central with a record of 20-26. They are 4.5 games back of the Cleveland Guardians for first place, and look up to the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins.

After the Tigers series wraps up against the Blue Jays, Detroit will take on those Guardians in a four-game set with major AL Central implications. That Guardians-Tigers series will take place in Detroit.
