On Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals will open up a series with the Los Angeles Dodgers (at home).

The Cardinals are coming off a 10-5 win over the Pirates (in Pittsburgh) on Thursday.

Earlier this week, the team announced that they had claimed Luis Peralta off waivers from the Colorado Rockies.

They wrote (via X) on April 27: “We have claimed LHP Luis Peralta off waivers from Colorado and optioned him to Memphis (AAA).”

That said, the Cardinals have now designated Peralta for assignment.

He did not appear in a game for the team.

Peralta has appeared in 23 MLB games for the Rockies over the last two seasons.

In 2025, he went 1-3 with a 9.47 ERA in 22 games.

At just 25, Peralta could be a good addition for another organization (or the Triple-A team of the Cardinals).

MLB Social Media Reacts To Sudden Peralta Move

GettyRelief pitcher Luis Peralta #41 of the Colorado Rockies delivers a pitch in the sixth inning against the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field on September 3, 2025 in Denver, Colorado.

Here’s what people were saying on social media:

@FioreCollin: “Why even pick him up if he’s already gone”

@RoycroftRumble: “WHY”

Redbird Farmhands: “How will the Luis Peralta era be remembered?”

@RayMileur1: “#STLCards Transactions – St. Louis Cardinals selected the contract of LHP Jared Shuster from Memphis to be available tonight for this weekend series with the Dodgers. In addition, they have designated LHP Luis Peralta for assignment, that opens a spot on the 40-man roster.”

@therealgufeball: “That’s Cardinal legend Luis Peralta to you”

Cardinals Right Now

The Cardinals come into their series with the Dodgers as the third-place team in National League Central with an 18-13 record in 31 games.

They are 7-8 in the 15 games they have played at home.

Following the Dodgers, the Cardinals will play their next series on Monday when they remain at home to host the Milwaukee Brewers.

Last season, they missed the 2025 MLB playoffs.
