Shane van Gisbergen’s dramatic victory at Go Bowling at The Glen became official after NASCAR post-inspection found no problems with the winning car. The NASCAR post-race inspection result confirmed van Gisbergen as the winner of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International.

Van Gisbergen drove the No. 97 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet to his seventh career NASCAR Cup Series victory on May 10, 2026. The New Zealand driver came back from 26th place late in the NASCAR Watkins Glen race after a pit stop dropped him deep in the field. He erased a gap of nearly 30 seconds in only 18 laps before passing Ty Gibbs with seven laps remaining. He crossed the finish line 7.288 seconds ahead of Michael McDowell.

NASCAR reporter Matt Weaver later confirmed the NASCAR inspection results on social media.

“NASCAR Cup Series post-race inspection is complete at Watkins Glen International. No issues with the winner. All cars cleared inspections. The No. 17 and No. 88 cars will head back to R&D.”

The clean NASCAR post-race inspection result removed any remaining doubt after one of the most talked-about NASCAR Watkins Glen races of the 2026 season.

NASCAR Post-Race Inspection Clears Shane van Gisbergen at Watkins Glen

NASCAR officials completed the standard NASCAR inspection process without finding any violations on van Gisbergen’s car. The result officially secured the Watkins Glen win for the Trackhouse Racing driver and locked in another major result for the team during the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season.

While the winning car passed NASCAR post-inspection, officials selected the No. 17 Ford of Chris Buescher and the No. 88 Chevrolet of Connor Zilisch for additional checks at the NASCAR Research and Development Center in Concord, North Carolina. NASCAR regularly sends selected cars for further inspection after road-course races, during which teams use different aerodynamic and suspension setups.

NASCAR officials did not announce any penalties connected to the Watkins Glen race weekend. The additional inspection for Buescher and Zilisch does not affect the NASCAR Watkins Glen results.

The victory marked the first Trackhouse Racing win of the season. It also gave Shane van Gisbergen his second straight Watkins Glen International victory and strengthened his reputation as NASCAR’s top road course specialist.

Shane van Gisbergen Dominates Another NASCAR Watkins Glen Race

Shane van Gisbergen showed speed throughout the NASCAR Watkins Glen weekend after starting from the pole position. He remained near the front early before the strategy moved him back during the final stage.

The late pit stop forced the Trackhouse Racing driver to restart from 26th place, but he quickly charged through the field. His aggressive passing through the Esses and Inner Loop helped him catch Ty Gibbs before taking the lead with seven laps remaining in the NASCAR road course event.

After the race, van Gisbergen praised the team’s strategy and the balance of the No. 97 Chevrolet.

He called the comeback “good fun” and said the car allowed him to attack aggressively during the closing laps.

Michael McDowell finished second in the NASCAR Watkins Glen race while Ty Gibbs placed third. Chase Briscoe finished fourth, and Tyler Reddick completed the top five.

The result added another major Shane van Gisbergen NASCAR win to his growing list of road course victories.

NASCAR Watkins Glen Win Boosts Playoff Position

The official NASCAR post-race inspection result gives Shane van Gisbergen a major boost in the NASCAR playoff standings as the season moves deeper into the schedule. The victory also gives Trackhouse Racing momentum after a difficult opening stretch to the year.

Watkins Glen International again delivered one of the strongest NASCAR road course races of the season. Fans packed the New York circuit and watched strategy, speed, and aggressive overtakes decide the outcome.

The latest Shane van Gisbergen Watkins Glen victory also highlights NASCAR’s growing international presence. His continued success on road and street circuits has made him one of the biggest threats in the NASCAR Cup Series whenever the schedule turns to technical road courses.
