The Los Angeles Chargers will keep key member of the defense
The Los Angeles Chargers are just over one month away from offseason OTAs.
With the draft now in the books, Los Angeles’ roster is mostly set. However, it could still add a couple of free agents if they wish, especially considering it still has plenty of salary cap space remaining.
The Chargers will be aiming to make the postseason for the third consecutive year in 2026, and getting their first playoff win since the 2018 season. They are also striving to win the AFC West for the first time since 2009.
While speaking to the media on Monday, Tart had this to say when he was asked how motivated the Chargers are after going one-and-done in the playoffs each of the past two seasons.
“I think we’re [expletive] starving,” Tart responded.

Tart was also asked if his mindset is different after signing a three-year, $30 million contract extension with $20 million guaranteed back in February.
“No, it actually builds on it,” Tart said. “Same me. I always got something to prove. I know I play with a chip on my shoulder, always got something to prove, always want to find ways to get better each and every season. I got a new contract, but it don’t change the goals, it don’t change the ambition I got for myself and this team.”

It was an inconsistent first four years in the NFL for Tart. He signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2020, and was mostly a rotational player during his first two seasons. Tart had a breakout year in 2022, starting 16 games and recording 34 total tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Unfortunately, things unraveled in 2023, and he was benched for poor effort and attitude. That wasn’t the first of those issues, as Tart was suspended one game in 2020 for purposely stomping on Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Wyatt Teller. He was ultimately released in December of the 2023 season.
After a short stint with the Houston Texans, Tart hit his stride with the Chargers in 2024. He appeared in all 17 games in a rotational role that season, recording 29 total tackles and one sack. In 2025 Tart started all 17 games, posting 32 total tackles, four passes defensed, and two quarterback pressures.
He is an absolute force against the run, and gets a big push against opposing offensive lines to open things up for other Chargers pass rushers. Tart went on to express how much it meant to him that Los Angeles gave him a contract extension, and his appreciation for the franchise accepting him.
“I think it was great,” Tart said. “I love being here. The staff knows that. Everybody in the building knows that. I’m extremely appreciative. I feel like over the years, it’s been a long journey. I’ve been busting my ass day-in and day-out, always trying to prove my worth to the staff, to my teammates, trying to prove myself each and every day. It’s much appreciated, and honestly, I thank God. I feel blessed.”
