Sassuolo Calcio faced AC Milan on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in a Serie A clash that carried importance for both sides late in the season. The match kicked off at 13:00 GMT, with Milan entering the game in third place on 67 points, while Sassuolo sat 11th with 46.

The result had direct implications for the top-three race, as Milan looked to stay ahead of Juventus FC, who were just three points behind. Sassuolo, meanwhile, aimed to build on their steady form and strong home performances.

Both teams came into the match with clear objectives. Milan needed consistency to protect their position, while Sassuolo looked to challenge a higher-ranked opponent and continue their solid run at home.

Sassuolo vs AC Milan Team News and Key Players

Under manager Massimiliano Allegri, Milan had focused on maintaining consistency in the final stretch of the season. Rafael Leão remained the main attacking threat, while Youssouf Fofana provided balance in midfield.

Sassuolo, led by Fabio Grosso, had shown solid form at home. Domenico Berardi returned from suspension and remained a key figure in attack, especially given his strong record against Milan.

Milan also had a notable change in midfield, with Ardon Jashari expected to step in due to the absence of Luka Modrić, who was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Form and Head-to-Head Record

Looking at recent Sassuolo vs AC Milan stats, Milan had remained unbeaten in their last eight away league visits to Sassuolo, recording six wins and two draws. That record gave them a clear historical edge heading into this match.

Sassuolo, however, had been difficult to break down at home and recently held ACF Fiorentina to a goalless draw. Their defensive structure and attacking transitions made them a competitive opponent.

The match was expected to test Milan’s consistency against a well-organized Sassuolo side, with both teams having clear but different objectives at this stage of the season.

US Sassuolo Calcio went into halftime with a 1–0 lead over AC Milan after a chaotic opening 45 minutes at the Mapei Stadium. The home side made a fast start and took control early, while Milan’s plans were disrupted by a key red card that changed the flow of the game.

Sassuolo took the lead in the 5th minute through Domenico Berardi, who finished calmly after a setup from Armand Laurienté. The early goal gave Sassuolo control and confidence.

The turning point came in the 24th minute when Fikayo Tomori was sent off after two quick yellow cards. That left Milan with 10 men and forced a tactical adjustment, with their shape dropping deeper and attackers isolated.

Sassuolo controlled possession at 58 percent and recorded four shots on target, compared to Milan’s one. They also led 3–0 in corners, reflecting their dominance before the break.
