The Detroit Lions have added a backer for Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams in this 2026 NFL draft pick.

The Detroit Lions have their roster nearly set going into the 2026-27 season following the 2026 NFL draft. Among the team’s bold moves was trading up 13 spots to draft wide receiver Kendrick Law. He’ll help back wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, but he also brings versatility in his position.

Trading up indicates that Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes had their eyes set on Law for a while. They did what they needed to do to get him in their camp. The team selected the Kentucky wide receiver with the 168th overall pick, giving up picks 181 and 213 to move up.

Law is 5-foot-11, 203-pound receiver, and he led the Kentucky Wildcats in catches at 53 and receiving yards at 540 in 2025, according to ESPN research. Before heading to Kentucky, Law played for his first three seasons at Alabama and, proving his versatility, also has special teams experience as a returner.

Detroit Lions Wide Receiver Discusses His Strengths

According to Tim Twentyman of the Detroit Lions’ official website, Law is the kind of player who “schemed to get the ball in his hands on jet sweeps, screens and quick throws to utilize his run-after-catch ability.”

“I feel that’s one of my strengths too, but I feel like I can also stretch the field where – well, I know I can stretch the field,” Law stated. “I feel like that’s just something that the Lions will every day get to see from me.”

He added, “‘Hey, this guy is not only just a medium-type guy, package-type weapon, but he’s also a vertical threat. We can use him down the field, we can use him intermediate or we can use him in range.’ And that’s what kind of guy I feel like I am.”

NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein says of Law that he’s a “transfer with a compact build whose primary function at Kentucky was to add yards after the catch on quick throws near the line of scrimmage.” He also has “strong hands to make contested grabs and breaks tackles on a regular basis with the ball in his hands.”

Detroit Lions Get Solid Grade for 2026 NFL Draft Class

Overall, the Detroit Lions are getting good grades for their selections in the 2026 NFL draft. In a piece out on Saturday, April 25, Nate Davis of USA Today gives the team a B grade. Sure, we’d like an A, but considering some teams got C grades or lower, let’s take it.

“First-round OT Blake Miller and second-round DE Derrick Moore, a Michigan alum whom the Lion traded up to get, project as Week 1 starters at crucial positions of need,” he states in the piece. “Moore may be a long-term wingman off the edge opposite fellow ex-Wolverine Aidan Hutchinson.”

Davis adds of the draft selections: “This year’s third-rounder was invested in a 2025 trade that netted promising WR3 Isaac TeSlaa. In totality, it might be enough to get a team that will benefit from a last-place schedule in 2026 back to the postseason.”

It’s great to see the Detroit Lions getting props for their 2026 NFL draft additions. Now, it’s up to the coaching staff to mold these young, talented players into true Lions.
