Cash Jones #32 of the Georgia Bulldogs had a workout for the Cleveland Browns.

Former Georgia running back Cash Jones is changing positions early on in his NFL career. Shortly after being signed by the Atlanta Falcons as a UDFA following him going unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft, he appears to have transitioned to wide receiver.

Weirdly enough, that news comes not from the Falcons themselves, but from teammate Zachariah Branch. He lined up at wideout at Georgia and continues to do the same for Atlanta. So, Branch and Jones are already close and share a history, but they’ll be even closer now.

The fact that Jones could be changing positions, though nothing has been officially announced just yet, does not necessarily come as a surprise. In fact, Jones actually fits better as a pass-catcher, at least based on paper. Jones, who functioned well as a third-down back, caught more passes (57) than he totaled rushing attempts (52).

He averaged a solid 10 yards per catch on those receptions.

If anything, fans of both the Falcons and Bulldogs should have been waiting for his official role to be clarified. Jones was a jack-of-all-trades who wore multiple hats for Georgia and who can line up at multiple positions, so it’s difficult to truly pin him under any one category.

That type of versatility will be something the Falcons can take advantage of as Jones continues to make the next step in his career.

In addition to Branch announcing that Jones would be playing wide receiver, Jones was also seen participating in drills with the position group during rookie minicamp. On top of being a depth piece for Atlanta at wide receiver, Jones can serve as a special teams ace and a potential asset on trick plays.

That panned out pretty well for him at Georgia. Even though he did not consistently wow on the stat sheet, he still made some clutch plays for the Bulldogs. Those included a blocked punt and an onside kick recovery.

It will be interesting to see if Jones ultimately makes the 53-man roster with the Falcons, but it is easy to argue that, between his experience overall and the situation the Falcons are in, Jones has the best chance of making the cut as a wideout as opposed to a rusher.

Falcons Earn High Praise For 2026 NFL Draft Class

The Falcons received mostly “B” grades from the media for their selections in the 2026 NFL Draft and undrafted free agent pickups, though there were some A’s and C’s sprinkled in there. In addition to Jones, Atlanta brought several other talented players into the fold ahead of the upcoming season.

The undrafted free agent signings included tight end Brandon Frazier (Auburn), quarterback Jack Strand (Minnesota State – Moorehead), offensive guard Kam Dewberry (Alabama), center James Brockermeyer (Miami), offensive tackle Riley Mahlman (Wisconsin), wide receiver La’Meke Brockington (Minnesota), wide receiver Vinny Anthony II (Wisconsin), defensive tackle Carlos Allen Jr. (Houston), cornerback Malcolm DeWalt IV (Akron), tight end Jack Velling (Michigan State), defensive end CJ Nunnally IV (Purdue), long snapper Philip Florenzo (Clemson) and wide receiver Keelan Marion (Miami).
