Per team announcement, Red Sox placed Crochet on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his left shoulder. Filling Crochet’s spot on the roster is utility man Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester.

In six starts this season, Crochet is 3-3 with a 6.30 ERA and 37 strikeouts. In Crochet’s last appearance however, the lefty tossed six shutout innings against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Red Sox place ace LHP Garrett Crochet on the 15-day IL with left shoulder inflammation. Crochet pitched 6 shutout innings in his last start against the Baltimore Orioles in a 17-1 victory, which was Alex Cora’s final game before being dismissed.

Ironically, Crochet’s last solid start, was also Alex Cora’s last game as manager.

Crochet was slated to start on Friday, May 1, against the Houston Astros. As of right now, the pitcher to takes his place is TBD.

Garrett Crochet Goes From Cy Young Candidate to Struggling Pitcher

In 2025, Garrett Crochet had a phenomenol breakout season. Crochet transitioned from consistent reliever to an ace starter.

Acquired from the Chicago White Sox via a trade on the last day of the Winter Meetings in 2024, Crochet quickly signed a six-year, $170 million contract the following April with Boston.

The left-handed pitcher finished as runner-up behind Tarik Skubal for the 2025 American League Cy Young Award. Crochet finished the season 18-5 with a 2.59 ERA, he led the AL with 205 1/3 innings pitched, while also setting the pace in the AL with an 11.18 K/9 and led MLB with 255 strikeouts.

This season however, has taken a different turn for the 26-year-old. In Crochet’s first start of 2026, he only pitched five innings while giving up four earned runs.

A few starts later, Crochet had his worst start in Boston, giving up ten runs in 1.2 innings against the Minnesota Twins. After that performance, many people began to speculate if Crochet was dealing with some underlying injury.

Two weeks later, it remains true for the 26-year-old.
