Citi Field can finally celebrate again. The New York Mets snapped their 12-game losing streak in a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins. The last time the Mets won was April 7 against the Arizona Diamondbacks at home.
Luke Weaver secured the Mets’ long-awaited win on a 1-2 breaking pitch low in the zone to Byron Buxton, and the stadium erupted.
MLB insider Jon Heyman took to X to credit Luke Weaver’s pitching and manager Carlos Mendoza for sticking with him in the ninth inning:
“Luke Weaver is the hero as Mets snap 12-game losing streak,” Heyman wrote. “Weaver whiffed Twins star Byron Buxton to nail down 3-2 win. Smart move by Carlos Mendoza to stick with Weaver to secure the win.”
Although early in the year, many fans were beginning to lose hope. But with this win over the Twins it turns a new leaf for the remainder of the season.

Fans felt as if the day would never come, and probably even assumed that tonight was not their night after watching Mark Vientos blow through a stop sign in the bottom of the sixth inning to get tagged out–by a mile–at home with the score even at 2.
Even cross-town rival, Yankees fans, took it upon themselves to congratulate the Mets on their win.

The mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, even took it upon himself to celebrate on X, tweeting, “LGM (let’s go Mets).”
Mamdani has even taken quite a bit of blame for the Mets’ losing streak after posting a photo on social media with Mr. and Mrs. Met right before the losses began to roll in.

In typical 2026 New York Mets fashion, the Mets win comes with an expense. That expense unfortunately being, shortstop Francisco Lindor.
Lindor exited Wednesday’s game against the Twins during the fifth inning after an unknown injury during an at-bat.
“[Lindor] is going to get an MRI tomorrow and see what we are dealing with,” said manager Carlos Mendoza. “It sucks and when you see a guy like Lindor, as tough as he is, I knew right away. He was rounding third base and I knew something wasn’t right. We’ll see what we have.”
Just as the Mets got back superstar Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor is likely to hit the injury list. It seems like the Mets are going tit-for-tat with themselves
Even with a victory, it barely tastes sweet. Only time will tell if the Mets are able to stay on the correct side of the win column.
