The Orlando Magic had three chances to complete an upset against the No. 1 seed Detroit Pistons in the 2026 NBA playoffs.

However, the Magic fell short after losing three straight games, including a Game 7 116-94 loss at Little Caesars Arena on Sunday.

Paolo Banchero was the lone bright spot with 38 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Desmond Bane didn’t get enough shots, while Jalen Suggs and Anthony Black struggled from the field.

They could have used Franz Wagner, who missed the last three games due to a calf injury.

Tracy McGrady Gives Orlando Magic Harsh Reality Check

After the Magic’s lackluster performance in Game 7, Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady dropped a harsh message for the franchise’s front office. McGrady wants to overhaul the roster, especially adding depth and calling for changes in that department.

“What they have on their roster right now, what you see on their bench they gotta go,” McGrady said on NBC Sports’ NBA Showtime. “I’m sorry, they ain’t good enough. They need to improve this roster if they wanna be a team in the East that’s gonna compete. Cause New York’s ain’t going nowhere. Boston’s not going nowhere and Detroit’s not going nowhere, so you have to improve this roster. I don’t care, man, improve the roster.”

The Magic would be one of the teams to watch out for in the offseason, especially after being linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Despite the reality check on the Magic, McGrady had nothing but praise of Paolo Banchero for the things he did in Game 5 and Game 7.

“He’s the cornerstone for this franchise,” McGrady said. “I’ve seen growth in him. We’ve been talking about Paolo about how he should play. Well, Games 5 and 7 is who he is and who he should be. Paolo, that’s who you are. Don’t forget about. That’s who he is. Let’s build around that right there.”

McGrady even wanted Banchero to be more like LeBron James for the Magic and have a voice about how the team should build around him.

Orlando Magic Fires Jamahl Mosley

Less than 24 hours after their Game 7 loss, the Orlando Magic parted ways with coach Jamahl Mosley, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Mosley was in charge of the Magic for five seasons, compiling a record of 189-221. He led the franchise to three playoff appearances from 2024 to 2026.

However, the Magic failed to get out of the first round every single time. They lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games in 2024, to the Boston Celtics in five games in 2025 and to the Detroit Pistons in seven games this year.

There were also rumors about a rift between Banchero and Mosley throughout the season. ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel cited sources saying that the star forward wasn’t thrilled with the coach’s decision to take the ball out of his hands late in close games.
