Steve Kerr Reveals Timeline of Warriors’ Decision For His Future

Steve Kerr has been the head coach of the Golden State Warriors since 2014.

Steve Kerr’s future with the Golden State Warriors has been hazy since the team lost in the NBA play-in tournament against the Phoenix Suns. Kerr, seen as a revolutionary over his 11 years with the Warriors, gave a timeline on when his future with the Warriors will be discussed.

In his interview with The New Yorker, Kerr said that the team will discuss their vision for the future in one or two weeks. Kerr being part of those plans remains to be seen.

“If Steph and Draymond were retiring this year, I think this would be an easy decision: we all go out together and the organization takes their new path,” Kerr said. “But these are all conversations that will happen in the next week or two, and we’ll figure it out. And whatever happens, it’s going to end well. I know that, because it’s too important not to.”

Kerr added that he thinks Steph Curry, who is now 38 years old, still has a lot left in him, believing that they can still muster accomplishments together if given the chance.

“But it’s not that easy because I think Steph’s going to play another couple of years and I think we can still do some good things together,” he said.

Kerr has been expressing fond things about coaching Curry over the past weeks. The two have created one of the most successful player-coach relationships in NBA history, winning four NBA titles in six Finals trips.

Kerr has also been credited with unleashing Curry’s 3-point brilliance through a system that was predicated on his gravity and shooting capacity.

Alongside Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, Curry and Kerr have been the team to beat throughout the league for over five years until injuries and father time ultimately halted their run.

Draymond Green Does Not Think Steve Kerr Would Be Back Next Season

Draymond Green has an unfortunate feeling about Steve Kerr’s future with the Warriors. According to the former Defensive Player of the Year, he does not expect Kerr to be back next season.

Nevertheless, Green still wants Kerr to be his coach next season.

“I hope he’s our coach next season,” Green said on his podcast. “You want my opinion? I think not. Just because it feels like that. It felt like that was it.”

Just like Kerr, Green does not know which direction the Warriors organization will go next after this season.

“I’ve never been so uncertain since earlier in my career in what happens next,” Green said. “But I’m truly at a loss now because you don’t know what direction will be next.”

“I also hope I’m on this team next season. We also don’t know that. Man, if it was, what a run.”

The Warriors finished the season with a 37-45 record. They beat the LA Clippers in the first play-in game but ultimately got eliminated by the Phoenix Suns.

Steve Kerr’s Coaching Expiration Date

GettySteve Kerr admits coaching expiration date.

Steve Kerr was the first to admit that being a head coach in the NBA always has an expiration date.

“I still love coaching, but I get it,” Kerr said. “These jobs all have an expiration date.”

Kerr was hired by the Warriors in 2014 before becoming the second-longest tenured head coach in the NBA after Miami Heat’s Erik Spoelstra.
