Jauan Jennings is back together with former San Francisco 49ers teammate Jordan Mason on the Minnesota Vikings.

The Minnesota Vikings found a strong complement for what they already have with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison in the big-bodied and physical Jauan Jennings, signing the former San Francisco 49er in free agency.

Jennings has thrived as a red zone and clutch-down threat, and he has also been a strong run blocker.

That last part is good news for Vikings running back Jordan Mason.

Jauan Jennings Reunited With Former 49ers Teammate Jordan Mason

Jennings inked a one-year, $8 million contract with the Vikings, in a deal that reunites him with  Mason, who was his teammate for three seasons with the 49ers from 2022 through the 2024 campaign.

Minnesota acquired Mason in a trade with the 49ers last season, pairing him with Pro Bowler Aaron Jones. Mason, for one, is certainly happy about Jennings’ arrival.

“Aaaaayyyyyyyyeeeee Twin,” Mason posted to his Instagram story on May 8.

The Athletic’s Alec Lewis noted on May 7 that Jennings’ deal is worth up to “$13 million,” adding that the former seventh-round selection is a “really good fit as the WR3 alongside Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.”

Jennings had 55 receptions for 643 yards and a career high 9 touchdowns in 2025 after posting a 77-975-6 line the season prior.

Mason notably had a career-high 789 rushing yards during his final season in San Francisco.

That came with Jennings helping to block on the outside, where his body type and physicality offer a strong contrast to Jefferson and, even more, Addison. Jennings’ ability to line up in the slot helps maximize his blocking ability.

Jauan Jennings Replacing Coaching Staff Darling

Jalen Nailor, Las Vegas Raiders

GettyJalen Nailor left the Minnesota Vikings to sign with the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.

Jennings is also a different kind of receiver than the one he is replacing, Jalen Nailor. Nailor signed with his hometown team, the Las Vegas Raiders, in free agency this offseason.

Nailor, affectionately nicknamed “Speedy,” operated primarily as a deep threat for the Vikings.

Jennings has averaged 3.1 yards per reception fewer, and his average depth of target has been 2.2 yards shorter than his predecessor’s mark. Even with Addison and Jefferson still in tow, the Vikings are losing an element of explosiveness going from Nailor to Jennings.

They are, however, setting themselves up to be better in another aspect, adding more physicality to their group.

Vikings Can Be Smash-Mouth Team

T.J. Hockenson, Vikings

GettyT.J. Hockenson and Jauan Jennings will allow the Minnesota Vikings to be versatile.

Jennings’ addition does allow the Vikings to lean into their run game with Mason and Jones this coming season. They ranked 23rd on the ground during the 2025 regular season.

Jennings and tight end T.J. Hockenson, whose own future has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks and months, are assets in the pass and run games.

That allows the Vikings to run different plays from similar looks, adding another layer of complexity for opposing defenses to decipher.

If there remains a concern for the Vikings’ WR room, it is a lack of proven depth options.

Nailor ranked third among the group last season with 444 yards. The next closest wideout who is still with the team is 2025 third-round pick Tai Felton. He had three catches for 25 yards as a rookie.

The Vikings still have time to add to the group, but much of their hopes rest on Jefferson, Addison, and now, Jennings.
