The Saints have released former Packers wide receiver Samori Toure

The New Orleans Saints continued a strong offseason of work in the 2026 NFL Draft, where the front office managed to bring several talented players to town. After seemingly finding their quarterback of the future, Tyler Shough, in 2025, the Saints have made an effort to surround him with talent this offseason.

While Chris Olave is already a star wide receiver, adding some more playmakers for Shough in the passing game was a key goal in the draft. With that in mind, New Orleans brought three new pass catchers to town, a group that was highlighted by the No. 8 overall pick, Jordyn Tyson. However, now that these new players have been brought to town, it has resulted in the team having to move on from former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Samori Toure.

Saints Release Samori Toure After Drafting Jordyn Tyson

The #Saints are releasing WR Samori Toure following the drafting of WRs Jordyn Tyson and Bryce Lance, source says. Toure, a 2022 seventh-round pick of the #Packers, joined New Orleans in November and had signed a futures deal this January.

In addition to Tyson, the Saints also drafted Bryce Lance in the fourth round and Barion Brown in the sixth round. It’s Tyson, though, who has fans so excited for the 2026 season. After a standout collegiate career with the Arizona State Sun Devils, there’s reason to believe that Tyson can come in and immediately contribute as New Orleans’ No. 2 wide receiver.

With the Saints going on an unexpected shopping spree at wide receiver in the draft, though, that spelled bad news for Toure. A seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Toure spent the start of his career with the Packers before latching on with the Chicago Bears last summer. In November, Toure found his way to New Orleans, and he signed a futures deal with the team in January.

Things change quickly in the NFL, though, and while Toure initially seemed set to have an opportunity to compete for a spot at the back of the team’s wide receiver depth chart, that’s no longer the case. The Saints are going to see what their new crop of pass catchers can do, as they have decided to release Toure now that the draft is officially in the books.

“The Saints are releasing WR Samori Toure following the drafting of WRs Jordyn Tyson and Bryce Lance, source says,” Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported in a post on X. “Toure, a 2022 seventh-round pick of the Packers, joined New Orleans in November and had signed a futures deal this January.”

Saints’ New-Look Wide Receiver Room Has Fans Excited for 2026 Campaign

The New Orleans Saints made a savvy selection with the 8th overall pick, but questions linger about what this could mean for the team.

Toure has largely struggled to find his footing so far in the NFL, as he has just 14 receptions for 163 yards and a touchdown to his name in 23 games of action. While he has upside, he has struggled to get on the field and prove his worth, as he’s played in just one game over the past two years.

While the Saints could reunite with Toure down the line as a potential depth option, they are going to give their young guns a shot to prove themselves first. The arrival of Tyson, Lance, and Brown has folks in New Orleans excited, and while there’s no guarantee they will pan out, there’s reason for optimism surrounding the team’s offense heading into the new season.
