The Seahawks made several quarterback moves after the NFL draft.

The Seattle Seahawks made moves for two quarterbacks in the days following the NFL draft. Two undrafted signal-callers will get a chance to prove themselves during the Seahawks rookie minicamp.

It is not uncommon for NFL teams to bring in an undrafted quarterback to help with minicamp practices, especially if the franchise did not draft a signal-caller. The Seahawks invited Washington quarterback Kai Horton to minicamp, per the Huskies’ official X account.

Seattle also invited Tulane quarterback Jake Retzlaff to minicamp, the Green Wave announced. Horton spent the majority of his college career as a reserve quarterback, playing in 19 games at Tulane and Washington.

After spending his first four seasons at Tulane, Horton transferred to Washington in 2025. Horton threw for 964 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 53.8% of his passes during his five college football seasons.

The Seahawks Invited a Pair of Quarterbacks to Rookie Minicamp

Horton has premier NFL size at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds. Retzlaff is the more intriguing signing given his college production.

The signal-caller played in 31 games during his three college football seasons. Retzlaff threw for a career-high 3,168 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 61.9% of his passes during 14 appearances for Tulane in 2025.

The quarterback is also a threat with his legs, adding 634 rushing yards last season. Retzlaff spent his first two seasons at BYU before transferring to Tulane in 2025.

Seattle already has plenty of depth on the roster behind Sam Darnold. Retzlaff and Horton face an uphill battle to make the Seahawks roster given the team has three quarterbacks in Darnold, Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe.

The best-case scenario could be earning a training camp invitation where the rookies can attempt to gain the attention of other NFL teams during the preseason. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is still bullish on Milroe heading into his second NFL season.

“I believe he could have (had a larger role) last year,” Macdonald said of Milroe during a March 30, media session, per Seahawks.com’s Ari Horton. “It’s the way things shook out.

“It was best for the team for him not to be active on game day and have a larger role, but plenty of ability to do so throughout the year, I was really excited about his development. I know he’s going to work his tail off.”

The Seahawks Selected Defenders With 5 of 8 of the Team’s Draft Picks

The Seahawks headed into the NFL draft with just four selections but ended up with eight picks after some wheeling and dealing by general manager John Schneider. Seattle focused on defense, selecting defenders with five of eight of the picks.

Schneider revealed that it was a bit challenging finding trade partners as Super Bowl champs.

“Unfortunately, people don’t want to trade with us until the sixth or seventh round, fifth or sixth round,” Schneider explained on April 25, per Seahawks.com. “I don’t know why it happened like that this year.

“I felt like all the way through we were targeted, we were clear, we had a plan. You’re always going to have some upsets throughout the process.”
