Robert Lewandowski is back in the goals for Barca.

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has confirmed he will leave FC Barcelona at the end of the season, bringing an emotional close to one of the club’s most important rebuilding periods. The Polish striker shared the news in a heartfelt social media post on Saturday, May 16, 2026, as his contract nears its expiration on June 30.

Robert Lewandowski joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022 and quickly became one of the team’s most important players. During four successful seasons, he helped Barcelona return to the top of La Liga and win several major trophies.

The veteran striker thanked the fans, the club, and president Joan Laporta while reflecting on his years in Catalonia. Barcelona also responded with a public tribute, calling Robert Lewandowski a legend and thanking him for everything he achieved at the club.

Robert Lewandowski Says Goodbye to Barcelona after Four Successful Seasons

Robert Lewandowski announced his exit from Barcelona in a message that quickly spread across social media. The striker wrote, “After four years full of challenges and hard work, it’s time to move on. I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete.”

“I will never forget the love I received from the fans from my very first days. Catalonia is my place on earth.”

The farewell message included highlights from his Barcelona career. The video showed trophy celebrations, emotional moments with teammates, and scenes from his life in the city. Barcelona responded shortly after with its own message.

The club wrote, “Thank you very much for everything, Robert. Barça will always be your home. You are a legend.”

Robert Lewandowski joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022 for a deal worth up to €50 million. Barcelona faced financial problems at the time. The club needed experienced players to help rebuild the team after difficult seasons.

Robert Lewandowski helped Barcelona return to the top of La Liga

Robert Lewandowski made an immediate impact at Barcelona. In his first La Liga season, he scored 23 league goals and won the Pichichi Trophy as the league’s top scorer. He also helped Barcelona win its first La Liga title in four years.

Across four seasons, Robert Lewandowski scored around 119 goals and added 24 assists in more than 190 appearances in all competitions. He averaged more than 29 goals per season during his Barcelona career. He finished as the club’s 11th all-time leading scorer.

During his time at Barcelona, the club won three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups. One of his best seasons came in 2024/25 under Hansi Flick, when he scored 42 goals in all competitions.

Even during the 2025/26 season, Robert Lewandowski continued to contribute despite minor injuries and fewer starts.

Why Robert Lewandowski’s Barcelona exit matters so much

Robert Lewandowski’s departure signifies another significant shift for Barcelona as the club focuses on future development. The striker emerged as a leader during a time when younger players were joining the first team.

His experience and goals helped Barcelona remain competitive in La Liga and across Europe after Lionel Messi’s departure. Robert Lewandowski also earned praise for his professionalism and leadership throughout his time at the club.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta personally thanked the striker after the announcement. Robert Lewandowski now leaves Barcelona at 37, with his place in club history secured.

Lewandowski arrived during one of Barcelona’s hardest periods and leaves as one of the key players behind the club’s return to success.
