On Friday night, the Atlanta Braves will open up a series with the Los Angeles Dodgers in California.

During the middle of their current road trip, the heartbreaking news was announced that Ted Turner had passed away at the age of 87 (on May 6).

MLB Network mourns the passing of Ted Turner.

Dale Murphy Makes Heartfelt Post After Ted Turner News

After the news came out, Braves legend Dale Murphy sent out a post (via X.

Murphy wrote: “Nancy and I, and the whole Murphy family, along with the Braves family and TBS kids everywhere, were sad to hear of Ted’s passing. Hard to put into words the impact he had on us. We are grateful for the chance to play for Ted. He changed so much in this world with tenacity and courage. Thank you, Ted. Rest in peace.”

Turner was the longtime owner of the Braves, and the franchise played at Turner Field from 1997-2016.

They won the 1995 World Series Championship under Turner’s ownership.

Murphy’s MLB Career

Murphy was the 5th pick in the 1974 MLB Draft.

He spent the first 14 and a half seasons of his career with the Braves.

In that span, Murphy won two MVP’s, made seven All-Star Games (and won five Gold Glove Awards).

Following the Braves, he finished his career with the Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies.

Over 2,180 career games, Murphy batted .265 with 2,111 hits, 398 home runs, 1,266 RBI’s, 1,197 runs and 161 stolen bases.

He is one of the best players in MLB history to not make the Baseball Hall of Fame.
