The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Dover Motor Speedway ended with celebration for Corey Day and frustration for several teams after NASCAR completed post-race inspection on Saturday night.
The NASCAR Dover inspection confirmed Day as the official winner of the BetRivers 200, but penalties quickly followed for teams that failed inspection standards. NASCAR officials found multiple lug nut violations after the race, leading to fines, suspensions, and the loss of pit selection for next weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The NASCAR results stayed official after inspection, allowing Day to secure his second win of the 2026 season. The Hendrick Motorsports driver used a late-race charge and a bold pass through traffic to beat Justin Allgaier at Dover Motor Speedway in his first career start at the “Monster Mile.”
The NASCAR post-race penalties became a major story after the Dover Motor Speedway race ended. Although the NASCAR Dover inspection did not change the finishing order, several teams still faced punishment.
The No. 39 and No. 41 teams each had one unsecured lug nut during inspection. NASCAR penalized both teams with the loss of pit selection for next weekend’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The No. 07 team received the harshest NASCAR penalties after officials found two unsecured lug nuts. NASCAR fined the team $5,000 and suspended crew member Cory Selig for one race.
NASCAR continues to focus heavily on wheel safety because loose wheels can create dangerous situations during races. The penalties showed how pit road mistakes can still hurt teams after the race ends.
The NASCAR Dover inspection cleared Corey Day’s No. 17 car after Saturday’s NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Dover Motor Speedway. NASCAR officials confirmed there would be no changes to the final race results.
Day made the winning move with four laps remaining after diving three-wide through traffic to pass Justin Allgaier. He crossed the finish line 0.461 seconds ahead of the JR Motorsports driver. Allgaier led a race-high 71 laps but lost the lead late in the race. Sam Mayer finished third.
The race included several cautions, including a Lap 100 incident involving Rajah Caruth and Jesse Love. Day stayed clear of trouble and managed his tires during the final run.
After the race, Day explained how patience helped him reach victory lane.
“Man, I was hoping that’s how it would play out, I saved so hard there early in the last run once we put on tires and the yellow came out and I thought, awe, this is just going to be a caution fest and it was all for nothing, but oh man, it all just worked out good.”
Day also said the Dover victory felt more important because the team earned it through speed and strategy.
“This one feels really, really good. The Talladega one [win] was unexpected at a superspeedway, but we earned this one.”
Corey Day’s Dover Motor Speedway win added another major result to his strong 2026 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series season. The Hendrick Motorsports development driver now has victories at both Talladega and Dover this year.
The win moved Day to fourth in the standings. He now trails series leader Justin Allgaier by 195 points heading into Charlotte.
Day has now shown he can win on different types of tracks. Earlier this season, he captured a superspeedway victory at Talladega. On Saturday, he added a win on Dover’s difficult concrete oval.
The NASCAR Dover inspection confirmed the NASCAR results without controversy, allowing Corey Day and Hendrick Motorsports to leave Dover Motor Speedway with growing momentum before next weekend’s race at Charlotte.
