The Cowboys continue to make moves after the NFL draft.

The Dallas Cowboys have already landed an intriguing group of undrafted free agent signings less than 24 hours after the NFL draft ended. Among the first eight players to commit to Dallas is a powerful running back who is coming off a career season.

The Cowboys agreed to terms with Tulsa standout running back Dominic Richardson, per DallasCowboys.com’s Tommy Yarish. Richardson also had lengthy stints in the Big 12 with previous stops at Oklahoma State and Baylor.

“A sixth-year senior, Richardson is an experienced player who spent time at both Oklahoma State and Baylor before playing his final season at Tulsa,” Yarish wrote in an April 25, story titled, “UDFA Tracker: Cowboys continuing to add to roster following 2026 NFL draft.”

“With the Golden Hurricanes, Richardson rushed for 1,065 yards and five touchdowns on 212 carries.”

Richardson is also one of the players who flashed at the East-West Shrine Bowl.

Here’s what you need to know about the newest Cowboys running back amid the team’s latest roster moves.

Can Cowboys RB Dominic Richardson Make the Dallas’ Roster?

Richardson is listed at 6-feet, 205 pounds and will be competing for a Cowboys roster spot. The good news for Richardson is the Cowboys did not draft a running back.

The challenge is Dallas already has plenty of young talented backs on the roster. Dallas signed the team’s RB1 Javonte Williams to a lucrative new deal this offseason.

Additionally, the Cowboys have the following running backs on the roster heading into training camp: Malik Davis, Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah and Israel Abanikanda.

Richardson may be a rookie but brings a wealth of college football experience heading into Big D. The running back played six collegiate seasons with three different teams, appearing in 57 games over his career.

Richardson posted 1,065 rushing yards and five touchdowns in 12 contests in 2025. The playmaker added 20 receptions for 130 receiving yards as well during his breakout season at Tulsa.

Football Guys’ Dave Kluge’s scouting report indicates that the Cowboys are bringing some power, toughness and physicality to compete in Dallas. The analyst compared Richardson to former New England Patriots rusher Damien Harris.

“Richardson has an impressive frame with broad shoulders and a thick core, and he uses it to violently finish runs. His muscular build yielded workload durability, as he closed out the 2025 season with his two best games as a rusher,” Kluge detailed. “Richardson lacks dynamic play-making abilities, as his tight hips and stout legs take some time to get moving.

“However, he makes up for it with a borderline reckless desire to get downhill, mitigating potential losses with brute force over finesse. Richardson might need to put on a few pounds and lean into a new role in the pros, but his vigor could catch the eye of coaches and earn him an opportunity as a short-yardage back.”

It remains to be seen if Richardson will make the final roster. At the very least, it puts some added pressure on Blue and Mafah heading into their second NFL seasons.
