Celtics’ Nikola Vucevic Drops Notable Quote Ahead of Game 6 vs 76ers

The Boston Celtics still lead this series. That is the fact worth holding onto after Tuesday night. A 3-1 advantage became 3-2, a closeout opportunity at home slipped away, and now Boston heads back to Philadelphia for a Game 6 on Thursday that carries different stakes than it should have.

Boston’s fourth quarter produced 11 points on 3 of 22 from the field. The Celtics went cold at the worst possible moment and watched a 13-point third-quarter lead dissolve entirely. The Philadelphia 76ers outscored Boston 63-40 in the second half and left TD Garden with life.

As Game 6 approaches, one voice in the Celtics locker room offered the kind of perspective that only comes from experience.

Vucevic Delivers Veteran Message

Nikola Vucevic has been in this league long enough to know what panic costs a team. Ahead of Game 6, at shootaround, he was asked whether the feeling inside the locker room had shifted after a tough home loss. His answer was measured and direct.

“This is a very experienced group, guys that have, obviously, won a championship. They’ve been in playoff so many times with most of these guys. So they know what it takes.” Vucevic said.

“In the NBA, you can’t panic regardless,” Vucevic said. “Yeah, we had a great opportunity to close out at home. We didn’t do our job. And so you have to move on to the next one and come here.”

That composure matters heading into Philadelphia. A younger, less experienced team might let a blown closeout opportunity fester. This Celtics group has the championship pedigree to process it and move forward.

What Went Wrong and What Vucevic Faced

Vucevic’s own night illustrated the challenge the Celtics face with Joel Embiid.

When Neemias Queta picked up his fourth foul midway through the third quarter and headed to the bench, Vucevic stepped in. Embiid found a gear he had not shown in the first half, posting up repeatedly and converting at a rate Boston had no answer for. The 76ers center finished with 33 points, with 18 of those coming after halftime once the defensive dynamic shifted.

That is not a reflection on Vucevic’s effort. It is a reflection of how difficult Embiid is to contain when the most effective deterrent is sitting in foul trouble. Queta’s physicality gave the Celtics their best chance of keeping Embiid uncomfortable. Once that option was gone, everything changed.

What The Celtics Need in Game 6

The adjustments are clear even if executing them is harder than identifying them.

Keeping Queta out of foul trouble is the most critical factor. The Embiid and Tyrese Maxey pick-and-roll has been a persistent problem. Finding ways to navigate that without sending Queta to the bench early is the central challenge for Game 6.

Beyond that, Boston has to find a way to grind out points when the threes are not falling. Tuesday was the clearest illustration yet of what happens when the offense goes cold and the Celtics have no other gear. That is the adjustment Mazzulla has to solve before Game 6.

Embiid will be healthy, confident, and carrying the declaration he made after Game 5. The Celtics will need an answer for him that they did not have on Tuesday.

Final Word for the Celtics

Experience does not guarantee outcomes. But it shapes how a team responds when things go wrong, and how they prepare when the next game carries everything.

This Celtics group has the championship foundation to handle what Game 6 in a hostile environment will bring.

The Celtics still control the series. Time to close it out.
