Where are things at on the IPL Points Table ahead of the IPL 2026 playoffs?
The 2026 IPL cricket season is far from over. Things are getting exciting at the top of the IPL points table. Specifically, the most recent PBKS vs DC match has major implications for the upcoming GT vs SRH clash.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and the Punjab Kings are all within two points of each other. These six squads all have a chance to make a big push for the playoffs. With only a handful of games for each team, right now is when the rubber meets the road.
Here are the implications of the PBKS vs DC result, what it means for the GT vs SRH match, and an updated look at the 2026 IPL points table.
PBKS failing to close out their match against DC is a huge blunder. They could have secured top billing on the IPL points table, but instead, they will continue to fight in the thick of the playoff race.
With a sustained losing streak, they sit in fourth place after their match. Luckily, they can save face with a victory against the Mumbai Indians when they face each other on Thursday. However, if they falter again, CSK could knock them out of a playoff spot should they defeat the Lucknow Super Giants the next day.
PBKS’ bowling could not seal a victory against DC.
PBKS’ failure to secure the top spot has big ramifications for the IPL 2026 points table.
For starters, SRH and GT both have 14 points. Whoever wins this match claims first place on the points table.
GT vs SRH is one of three matches remaining for both sides.
GT will play the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings following their match against SRH. On the flip side, SRH has matches against the Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Arguably, GT has a softer schedule than SRH for the rest of the IPL 2026 tournament. A loss to SRH doesn’t kill their playoff dreams either. They still remain in the top three, thanks to DC defeating PBKS.
SRH, on the other hand, needs to put itself in the best position possible moving forward, given its difficult schedule. With the IPL 2026 playoffs on the near horizon, how SRH finishes their season could be a big story for IPL fans.
