The field for the 2026 PGA Championship is officially set, and it brings together major storylines that golf fans are eager to see. This year’s second major championship heads back to Aronimink Golf Club (May 14-17) for the first time since 1972.

Jordan Spieth has a chance to make history with a career Grand Slam. This will be Spieth’s 10th try at the milestone.

No one understands the struggle of trying to complete a career slam more than Rory McIlroy, who spent 11 years eyeing the elusive club. His moment finally came in 2025 when his long-awaited Masters win came to fruition.

“You know that you’re not just trying to win another tournament, you’re trying to become part of history, and that has a certain weight to it,” McIlroy said.

Last year, Spieth was cut from the PGA Championship after posting rounds of 76 and 68, finishing 2-over.

“It feels like we have a bad shoe at the blackjack table,” Spieth said. “You have to keep playing until it turns around. It’s like I’m playing the right way. It’s been a weird run of cards.”

Mickelson Out, Homa In

Last week, the Tour announced that Phil Mickelson made the decision to withdraw from the PGA Championship due to “personal health matter with his family.” In doing so, Max Homa received a spot in the event.

Mickelson has only played in one of six LIV events this year, and he passed on participating in the Masters due to similar issues.

“I just want to be really sensitive,” Scott O’Neil, LIV Golf CEO, said. “We all have things going on in our lives that are personal, and his is. I have a lot of love and respect for him as a human being, and certainly have respect for him for what he’s accomplished in his career. His presence is really helpful. I hope he comes back soon.

“I miss his presence at events. He carries a ton of weight in every room he walks. That’s not only because he’s a six-time major champion, but he’s got gravitas. It comes with something that’s way beyond winning. He’s one of the guys helping me, of course.”
