Thomas Castellanos has earned an invite to the Dolphins rookie minicamp, but as a wide receiver, not a quarterback
The Miami Dolphins have indicated all offseason long that they are undergoing a rebuild, and they put together their most important body of work during the 2026 NFL Draft. When all was said and done, the Dolphins ended up making a whopping 13 picks in this draft, with six of their selections coming within the top 100 picks.
Just because the draft is over, though, doesn’t mean Miami is finished making additions to its roster. The team has quickly begun scouring the undrafted free agent market, while also identifying players it could bring to town for its rookie minicamp. One player who has earned an invite is Florida State Seminoles quarterback Thomas Castellanos, but it doesn’t look like he will be working under center for the Dolphins when he finds his way to town.
Miami addressed both sides of the ball in the draft, and it appears to have added some solid prospects in the process. On offense, Kadyn Proctor appears st to be a day one starter on the offensive line, while wide receivers Caleb Douglas and Chris Bell will provide quarterback Malik Willis with some new weapons in the passing game. Defensively, cornerback Chris Johnson and linebacker Jacob Rodriguez could both become cornerstones for the Dolphins in years to come.
In the later rounds, the Dolphins continued to add intriguing prospects, but the longer you go in the draft, the more likely you are to see some fliers come off the board. That has continued in the aftermath of the draft, where Castellanos has emerged as an eye-catching prospect, not necessarily because he’s a quarterback, but because he appears to be open to trying to carve out a role for himself in the NFL as a wide receiver.
In the pre-draft process, teams showed interest in Castellanos’ potential as a wide receiver, despite the fact that he spent his collegiate career playing under center. While he didn’t get drafted, he will have a shot to prove he can make a name for himself as a pass catcher in the pros, as he has accepted rookie minicamp invites from both the Dolphins and the Tennessee Titans.
“Interesting one: Florida State QB Tommy Castellanos has accepted an invite to Titans rookie minicamp, but he’ll be listed as a WR, per sources. I’m told he also plans to attend the Dolphins rookie minicamp. That will also be as a WR,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported in a post on X.

While Castellanos proved he could win games while under center in college, his passing numbers never jumped off the page. In 2025, Castellanos threw for 2,760 yards and 15 touchdowns in 14 games, while also rushing for 557 yards and nine touchdowns on 137 carries. Castellanos’ dual-threat ability made him a quarterback prospect worth keeping tabs on, but evaluators believe he may be better suited as a wide receiver.
We have seen players make the switch from quarterback to wide receiver in the past, so it’s not out of the picture to suggest Castellanos could make this change. Nothing is going to be given to him, though, as he’s going to have to earn a contract by showing off his skills during rookie minicamp. Several teams are going to be keeping tabs on Castellanos, but if he impresses Miami, he could end up latching on with the team after going undrafted.
