Just when you think you have all the information you need on the recovery timeline for injured Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix … think again. .

Denver head coach Sean Payton stirred things back up again on Saturday at the Broncos’ rookie minicamp when he gave a somewhat surprising update on Nix’s recovery from a fractured ankle suffered in an AFC Divisional Round win over the Buffalo Bills — an injury that required multiple surgeries.

Nix suffered his injury on January 17 on one of the final plays in overtime as he set up a game-winning field goal for the Broncos, then watched from the suite level as his team lost 10-7 to the New England Patriots 1 week later in the AFC Championship Game.

While Nix had surgery within days of his injury, he was initially projected to miss just 6 weeks. On April 29, reports surfaced that Nix had a follow-up surgery that would likely keep him out until training camp in July.

According to Payton, that might not be the case.

“I’m sure you’ll see him,” Payton said on Saturday. “Minicamp. He’ll be full speed throwing in July before we get back here (for training camp).”

Bo Nix Might Be Available Before Training Camp

Nix’s recovery timeline has been difficult to follow – mostly because of Payton.

“A good chance Bo Nix will be on the field in June per Sean Payton,” Bleacher Report’s James Palmer wrote on his official X account. “The follow up (procedure) was not a surprise. He will be good to go well ahead of training camp. Sean Payton said we’ll see Nix on the field in a few weeks. They’ll hold him back some this spring, but everything is pointing toward Nix being full good well before training camp.”

“Sean Payton is VERY confident in Bo Nix’s rehab and ability to be back by potentially OTAs, but certainly for training camp,” DNVR’s Zac Stevens wrote on his official X account.

“Sean Payton said Bo Nix is doing great,” 9News Denver’s Mike Klis wrote on his official X account. “Follow-up procedure not a surprise. See him do some stuff in OTAs and minicamp in June but will hold him back. Full go before training camp.”

Broncos Can’t Keep Stories Straight on Nix

Payton seems to do a lot of speaking for Nix when it comes to his injury, which makes it kind of hard to believe anything he says when it comes to Nix.

“Sean Payton said Bo Nix ‘laughs’ at the communication about his ankle over the offseason with him and coach,” Stevens wrote on X.

Nix didn’t appear to be in a joking mood after Payton inferred his ankle injury was the cause of a congenital condition that made Nix more prone to ankle injuries.

“Nothing predisposed, nothing that was there originally,” Nix said in response to Payton’s comments. “That might have gotten confused. Just a simple step with my foot up in the air, my body weight came down on it, sort of got twisted up. … It could have been a worse landing, but I think all that force went into the only place it could. I don’t think (Payton) should share how many surgeries I’ve had in the past, to be honest with you … he doesn’t even really know that. But it’s going to be good to get back, get back to work. … Nothing really concerns me, nothing scares me moving forward.”
