Pérez had started out the season with the Washington Nationals.

He went 2-3 with a 6.19 ERA in 16 games.

Nationals Communications wrote (on May 4): “As a player with at least 5 years of Major League Service, Cionel Pérez had the option to declare free agency in lieu of accepting his outright assignment. Pérez has declared free agency.”

The 30-year-old then pitched four seasons for the Baltimore Orioles before joining the Nationals.

Over 273 career games, Pérez has gone 17-9 with a 4.34 ERA.

Romero had written (on March 23 before the season): “Cionel Pérez has been informed that he has made the Washington Nationals Opening Day roster, per source. Cionel came from outside the roster to earn a spot with 6 scoreless innings, 5 strikeouts, and velocity of 95–98 mph during Spring Training. Represented by Octagon.”
