Midway through a shockingly disappointing 2025-2026 NBA season, the Los Angeles Clippers decided to go younger at the trade deadline.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Bulls started firing up their rebuild by selling off some of their experienced veterans.

With Josh Giddey signing a multi-season contract last summer, he remained on the Bulls’ roster. However, the Clippers were recently encouraged by an NBA writer to give the Bulls’ front office a call to see if Giddey would be available heading into season two of the deal.

A Case Was Made For The LA Clippers

“Clearly, they need playmaking help,” ClutchPoints’ Bailey Bassett wrote.

“Enter Giddey, one of the league’s best passers. The jumbo guard is able to get downhill and kick out to open teammates, he can find cutting slashers and big men ready for lobs, and he is willing to make the extra unselfish pass outside of the perimeter.”

The Clippers have Darius Garland and Kawhi Leonard under contract for next year. Bennedict Mathurin is a restricted free agent, while Bradley Beal is likely returning after a season-long injury recovery.

“Having a player who will prioritize getting them clean looks would be really beneficial to the Clippers’ offense,” Bassett added. “The Clippers aren’t a bad team; they just need to add a few more pieces to round the roster out. Giddey should be one of them.”

Making Sense Of The Idea

First things first, why would the Bulls want to move on from Giddey?

The former sixth-overall pick is still on the young side (24 years old in October) and carries five seasons of NBA experience with him. At this point, it’s worth questioning whether Giddey is better off in a non-rebuilding situation. The Bulls could get decent value for him now, to help with their rebuild.

It’s rare for a team to want to cut ties with a player just one year into a $100 million extension. But the Bulls are dealing with a new front office. Bryson Graham didn’t make that deal with Giddey.

That’s not to say that Graham doesn’t believe in the veteran guard, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the new front office leader didn’t have a desire to reverse that decision, as the Bulls went on a different path.

On the Clippers’ side, their interest would have to depend on the plan for Darius Garland. If the Clippers see Garland as the primary ball handler when he’s on the court, then Giddey doesn’t make much sense for them. Fortunately, Garland has experience sharing those duties with Donovan Mitchell in Cleveland.

The other question includes Bradley Beal. Where does he fit in? Assuming the veteran guard picks up his $5.6 million player option, the Bulls are going to want to make good on their investment in him from last year.

Los Angeles would be an intriguing landing spot for Giddey, but the Bulls currently aren’t looking to part ways with their veteran guard.
