Head coach Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors talks with Stephen Curry

The Golden State Warriors apparently view Evan Mobley as their dream trade target they’d love to add to the roster in a dream world. Mobley is getting a lot of criticism for his weak performances in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ series against the Detroit Pistons. Cleveland could be looking to make some moves in the summer if they get eliminated in the second round again. Golden State will be active this offseason and would love to have a shot at Mobley.

Peter O’Keefe reported that the Warriors would love to pull off a three-team trade to acquire Mobley in a dream world:

“Evan Mobley trade would give the Warriors their dream big man.  Given their stature as a team that wants to contend, it’s apparent that the Cavaliers would only give up Mobley for a legitimate upgrade.

The Warriors aren’t in a position to offer such a trade, but if there’s even a whisper that Mobley’s available, they should be trying to push themselves into the picture as a third team to land the young big man.”

The report confirms that it will be a very tough task for the Warriors to pull off any move to add Mobley to the roster. However, three team trades could give them a creative path towards trying to add the former Defensive Player of the Year Award winner.

How Golden State Warriors Can Get Evan Mobley

Golden State’s three team trade would require another team loving their draft picks. Cleveland would require another superstar coming back their way to improve their chances of winning an NBA Championship over the next few years.

A losing team with a superstar would send their best player to Cleveland and deal Mobley to the Warriors for their picks. Golden State’s future draft picks are quite valuable, especially in the seasons after Stephen Curry most likely retires in the early 2030s.

The Cavaliers still will prefer to keep Mobley and trade someone else to improve the roster. Mobley’s young age and athleticism make him a stellar asset around the league. Cleveland would love to keep Mobley for his prime and make him one of their legendary players if he can put together a deeper career.

Golden State Warriors Will Add Talent

Even if Mobley is off the market, expect Golden State to continue looking at other All-Stars on the trade market. Cleveland’s Jarrett Allen would be available for a cheaper trade price if the Cavaliers opt to move on from him.

Bigger superstars like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, and LeBron James have been rumored to be on the Warriors’ radar moving in terms of trades this summer. Golden State badly wants another All-Star caliber player to pair with Curry to increase their title hopes.

Draft picks and young talents on the roster make it easier to risk the future for help now. However, Draymond Green or Jimmy Butler will likely have to be traded to make salaries match for any of the top stars. Teams will have to invest in the injured Butler or the aging Green at the latter stages of their careers.
