Matthew Stafford #9 of the Los Angeles Rams calls a play at the line of scrimmage against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Los Angeles Rams are leaning into making the most of Matthew Stafford’s final years, and there remains an outside belief that they could benefit from adding someone to the group like veteran Stefon Diggs.

Diggs is a polarizing player due to his off-field actions.

However, he remains a strong contributor, including a 1,000-yard campaign en route to a Super Bowl berth with the New England Patriots.

Rams Get New Push to Sign Stefon Diggs

Stefon Diggs Draft

GettyStefon Diggs remains an intriguing option for the Los Angeles Rams.

ESPN’s Matt Bowen, a former St. Louis Ram, is among those pushing the Rams to sign Diggs before the campaign begins.

“I really like him in L.A. alongside Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. The Rams attempted 430 passes out of 11 personnel last season (ninth most in the league), and Diggs is a natural separator who can line up inside or outside. Plus, he has the toughness to work the middle of the field on in-breaking concepts, a key element of coach Sean McVay’s offense,” Bowen wrote on May 18.

“Diggs had 85 receptions last season for the Patriots, which was almost twice as many as their next-closest wide receiver (Mack Hollins with 46). He would provide an easy boost to the WR room for quarterback Matthew Stafford.”

The Rams moved on from Super Bowl champion Tutu Atwell (Miami Dolphins) this offseason.

That left the Rams with several inexperienced options behind Nacua and Adams, and Diggs is certainly experienced.

Diggs had 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Patriots last season, and he boasts a 942-11,504-74 career line. The Rams finished the 2025 regular season with the top-ranked offense and passing game, making for a potentially strong fit.

Stefon Diggs Had Patriots Tenure Cut Short

Stefon Diggs sits courtside during the Celtics vs. Knicks playoff game at Madison Square Garden in May 2025.

GettyStefon Diggs lasted one season after signing a three-year contract with the New England Patriots.

Diggs was on a three-year, $63.5 million contract that the Patriots terminated this offseason after one campaign.

Spotrac projected Diggs’ market value at a two-year, $27.6 million pact.

The Rams have $25.7 million in space, per Over The Cap. That is plenty of space for the Rams to add Diggs before the 2026 season begins, which would give Stafford a trio of versatile options (with Adams and Diggs), who are all capable of aligning anywhere in the offensive formation.

Diggs, 32, has earned $149.5 million in his career, which could be a factor as he weighs his options for the 2026 season.

He is a four-time Pro Bowler and one-time First Team All-Pro.

Stefon Diggs Cleared Major Hurdle

Buffalo Bills

GettyStefon Diggs faced a legal matter that was lingering over him during his stay in free agency.

Diggs’ extended stay in free agency, which was at least partly related to a legal matter that has since been resolved, could help make a destination like the Rams more appealing.

Diggs is unlikely to secure a large contract at this stage of the offseason.

However, Diggs could land a one-year pact with a contender like the Rams, which would allow him to get back on the market next offseason (hopefully, without incident), in search of something more substantial.

Diggs would join recent Rams picks CJ Daniels, Jordan Whittington, and Konata Mumpfield, and a slew of former undrafted free agents behind Adams and Nacua at Stafford’s disposal.

It would certainly be an encouraging development for the reigning MVP.
