The Jacksonville Jaguars were linked to A.J. Brown

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ wide receiver room has been the source of much discussion. Heading into the 2025 season, it appeared the team was poised to have two dominant players at the position after Brian Thomas Jr. finished an impressive rookie season, and the team drafted two-way player Travis Hunter with the second overall pick.

Unfortunately, Thomas Jr. underwent a sophomore slump and Hunter’s two-way transition did not go as smoothly as fans may have hoped. One year later, Thomas Jr. is constantly the subject of trade speculation while Hunter is primarily expected to play cornerback.

After Hunter’s injury last season, the Jaguars traded for wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who helped elevate Jacksonville’s offense and later received a contract extension. Now, the Jaguars are once again being eyed to land a wide receiver, which in this case, three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown.

Jacksonville Jaguars Seen as an A.J. Brown Trade Possibility

NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported that the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to move on from three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown, whom La Canfora called a “disgruntled veteran.”

When discussing which teams might be interested, La Canfora revealed that an executive mentioned the Jaguars. La Canfora wrote:

“Another personnel exec mentioned Jacksonville as a potential fit for Brown.

Jags receiver Brian Thomas, Jr. has regressed and been subject of trade rumors and 2025 top pick Travis Hunter is going to be playing way more cornerback than receiver moving forward and a vet like Brown could help fill a void there.”

Among the other teams mentioned by La Canfora, were the New England Patriots, whom he called the “team most heavily linked to Brown,” and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Brown, 28, is still in the prime of his career, as he has notched four straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons. However, as he has grown more disgruntled with the team and quarterback Jalen Hurts, Brown’s production has slightly declined. After back-to-back seasons with over 1,400 receiving yards in 2022 and 2023, Brown has not surpassed that total in the previous two seasons.

Brian Thomas Jr. Trade Status

Perhaps a potential trade depends on Philadelphia’s interest in Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. Prior to the 2026 NFL Draft, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported the Jaguars were considering trading Thomas Jr. for a first-round pick , and considered using Thomas Jr. as an asset to facilitate a trade.

It is worth noting that Jaguars general manager James Gladstone dismissed trade rumors regarding Thomas Jr. earlier this year. Gladstone told reporters, “It can be very strange for sure. I care more for what weight that might put on Brian [Thomas] himself when it’s something that’s entirely out of his control and unnecessary. So I think that’s where my mind would go, if anything. But when it’s fraudulent claims, you just keep your mind on what you can focus on and you can actually control and try to do what’s best for the Jacksonville Jaguars

And ultimately that’s not the hardest thing to do when that’s the role and where you can try to compartmentalize things. But yeah, if anything, hopefully it’s not a weight that comes with the player that ever would be involved in such a thing.”
