Franz Wagner Injury

The Magic may be without Franz Wagner for the foreseeable future as the star recovers from a calf injury.

Franz Wagner’s injury kept the Orlando Magic star out for Game 6 against the Detroit Pistons, and the forward could be sidelined even longer. After an epic collapse in the second half, the Magic now face the Pistons in Game 7 on Sunday, May 3.

Wagner missed his second straight contest against the Pistons, putting his status in doubt for Game 7. The Magic star appeared to sustain the calf injury at the end of Game 4.

The Pistons’ win sends the series back to Detroit for Game 7 on Sunday, leaving little additional recovery time for the Magic forward.

“Nothing”

Wagner does not appear to be trending in the right direction. Ahead of Game 6, Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley revealed that Wagner was unable to participate in the team’s shootaround.

“Although Magic forward Franz Wagner (right calf strain) was already ruled out yesterday for tonight’s Game 6 against the Pistons, I asked Orlando coach Jamahl Mosley if Wagner was able to do anything at shootaround this morning,” Beede detailed in a May 1, message on X. “Mosley’s answer: ‘No.'”

Here’s what you need to know about Wagner’s injury and status for the NBA playoffs.

Franz Wagner’s Injury: The Magic Star’s Status Is in Doubt for Game 7 vs. Pistons

Given the recent history of NBA players sustaining another injury when trying to return from a calf strain, the Magic appear to be taking a cautious approach with Wagner’s recovery. Orlando has not revealed a specific timeline for Wagner’s return.

Wagner was initially listed as questionable for Game 5 before being ruled out. The star was also ruled out for Game 6 the day before the playoff showdown.

“Hopefully it’ll be better tomorrow,” Wagner told the Orlando Sentinel on April 27. “The guys got it done, so that’s all that matters.”

Magic’s Franz Wagner Has Been Receiving ‘Around-the-Clock Treatment’: Insider

Ahead of Game 5, Clutch Points’ Brett Siegel reported that Wagner was receiving “around-the-clock treatment.” Unfortunately, the treatment did not lead to Wagner being available to play in either of the last two games.

“Sources told ClutchPoints on Tuesday, following Wagner’s MRI results, that he would be receiving ‘around-the-clock’ treatment to try and improve his outlook to play in Game 5,” Siegel wrote in an April 29, story titled, “Magic’s Paolo Banchero casts doubt on Franz Wagner’s injury availability vs. Pistons.”

“How he ultimately felt in the morning and during shootaround would dictate his availability, and after missing shootaround, it seems very likely that he will be downgraded before Wednesday night’s game.”

Franz Wagner Missed Nearly 50 Games for the Magic During the Regular Season Amid Injuries

Along with Paolo Banchero, Wagner has emerged as one of the faces of the Magic franchise. The challenge is Wagner is developing a concerning injury history.

Wagner was plagued by a series of injuries during the regular season. The Magic star played in just 34 games, missing nearly 50 contests this season.

Prior to Game 6, Mosley told 96.9 The Game that Wagner’s status for a potential Game 7 would depend on how his body responded to treatment. The fact that Wagner was unable to participate in practices leading up to Game 6 is a bad sign on his potential availability.
