The Toronto Blue Jays have had a shaky start to the 2026 season. At the time of this writing, the Blue Jays are currently fourth in the American League East with a 12-15 record. They have also been struggling to break out of their early-season slump, as they have a 5-5 record in their last 10 games.

A notable reason for the Blue Jays’ tough start to the season has been their significant injury trouble. Nathan Lukes, Trey Yesavage, Yimi Garcia, George Springer, Addison Barger, Shane Bieber, Jose Berrios, Alejandro Kirk, Anthony Santander, and Cody Ponce are among the players currently sidelined for Toronto. With this, there is no question that the injury bug has been biting the Blue Jays badly early on this season.

With all of the injury trouble the Blue Jays are dealing with, it would not be surprising in the slightest if they looked to make some additions during the early part of the season. Because of this, they have now been named a top landing spot for a former New York Mets outfielder who was just designated for assignment by the National League East team.

Blue Jays Named a Top Landing Spot for Former Mets Veteran Tommy Pham

In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, Patrick McAvoy took a look at two potential landing spots for veteran outfielder Tommy Pham. This was after the Mets designated Pham for assignment earlier this week.

McAvoy named the Blue Jays as one of his potential landing spots for Pham, and it is understandable when looking at Toronto’s injury trouble early on this campaign.

“The Blue Jays haven’t been anywhere near full strength so far this season. For example, the Blue Jays have been without the services of George Springer since April 11. Springer has been making progress and should be back in the near future. But, the Blue Jays could still use some more veteran depth, at least for the bench, with all of the injuries the club has had to deal with,” McAvoy wrote.

With the Blue Jays needing more players with experience on their roster, it would make sense for them to take a flier on Pham. If they brought him in, he would provide them with another decent option for their outfield as they try to get their season back on track.

Pham did struggle during his second stint with the Mets, though, as he went 0-for-13 at the plate before being designated for assignment. While this is the case, the 13-year veteran also had 10 home runs, 52 RBIs, and a .245 batting average in 120 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates just last season. With this and his strong overall resume, he could bounce back if given a chance with a team like Toronto.

Blue Jays Should Be Bringing in More Players Soon

Whether they take a chance on Pham or not, the Blue Jays should be looking to add to their roster. They have far too many notable players sidelined right now, and they are undoubtedly feeling the impact.

Yet, if the Blue Jays want to add a solid veteran player to their group, Pham would have the potential to be a decent pickup for them. In 1,250 career MLB games over 13 seasons, he has 149 home runs, 522 RBIs, and a .256 batting average.
