Anthony Davis of the Wizards.

Washington Wizards star Anthony Davis revealed his future NBA career goals, saying that he still wants to win an MVP award before he retires.

Davis, who was traded by the Dallas Mavericks to the Wizards at this year’s NBA trade deadline, did not play again after joining Washington due to a hand injury. If all goes well, Davis will make a full recovery during this offseason and then join the Wizards in their starting lineup next season alongside fellow trade acquisition Trae Young and their group of young players and prospects.

At age 33 and having dealt with tons of injuries during his career, it’s difficult to say what Davis has left in the tank. When he is healthy and on the court, he is one of the most dominant two-way big men in the game. But he is rarely healthy, and that makes it difficult to say what he will do. That being said, Davis still believes in himself, and to that end, he still has big goals that he wants to accomplish before his career is over.

Anthony Davis Still Has Massive Career Ambitions

Speaking to Craig Melvin on the “Glass Half Full” podcast, Davis said that he has several goals he wants to accomplish, including winning MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, another NBA Championship, and playing 20 years in the league despite all of his various ailments.

Craig Melvin: How could you say that you’re not where you want to be right now? You’re an NBA champion, All-Star, like NBA 75. You’ve got gold medals. Seems like you’ve kind of got it. What’s left?

Anthony Davis: It’s a lot. I haven’t got MVP. I haven’t got Defensive Player of the Year. I want the parade for a championship, so I want to be able to do that again.

Craig Melvin: That’s right, because when you won, that COVID year…

Anthony Davis: Yeah. So, I mean, it’s still things I want to try to get. I want to get 20,000 points. I want to play 20 years. Craig Melvin: So you’ve got a list. Anthony Davis: Yeah, I have a list of things that I still want to do.

Wizards Hoping AD Returns to Full Health

Should Davis return to full health and get back on the court next season, the Wizards are hoping he can return to his dominant form, and the team can make it back to the playoffs.

The Wizards acquired Davis and Young in “pre-agency” moves this season with the design to make a playoff push next year. The Wizards have not made the NBA playoffs in five seasons, so the team wants to get back to the postseason next year, or at least get a spot in the Play-In Tournament. With new anti-tanking rules likely to be in place, there will be less incentive for the Wizards to tank, and that’s where Davis and Young come in.

Despite all of his injuries and missed time, when Davis is actually on the court, he is one of the best players in the league, and the Wizards are hoping that’s the case in 2026-2027 and beyond.
